should be easy to arrange
Awsome film, shotgun clint eastwood. ![]()
Played indoor in London a couple of weeks ago - decent sized disused factory wit big rooms and multi-level. Anyone fancy the Stalingrad Streey Fighting Academy?

Its a shame there isn't many Red Army folks out there - thats all i'm going to say!
El Alamein would be interesting though I doubt many people have DAK gear.
Currently liking the "what if" Operation Sea Lion OR (warning; non serious content!) for a laugh we could all wear cardboard wings and recreate the battle of Britain ![]()
Stalingrad is a little in the future although there have been some thoughts to a possible 24hr Ostfront game , Germans against Partisans, with a view to thinking about a Stalingrad later in 08 .
Partisans would be period(ish) civvies, v cheap to get together , Russki uniforms are also cheap , think hat and pretty much any Greatcoat for a winter game. SH came across genuine Russian stuff for around £60 , biggest problem as ever is no damned PPSH , but in the interest is there perhaps we could start of simply and see how it works ?
Porta just had a look on internet for the Werewolf units, made up for SS and Heer troops sounds great would be a very elite unit, could do a senario were the Axis side have to assasinate a Allied Officer.
If its passed 9 there is a 95% chance im pissed.
Werewolf = elite
you are joking right Lewis? The werewolf initiative was a desperate last ditch atttempt by nazi germany to launch partisan operation with underage boys and pensioners.
Thats all they had left by then.
I've just finsihed reading 'Stirlings Men' with first hand accounts of the SAS encountering 'werewolves' in the push thorugh germany and the soldiers saying how pitiful the standard of soldier that germany was forcing into action by late 45.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
yes, gadge, ive a book about the werewolf opperation to assasinate a german mayor who collaberated with the allies
one of the "men" was a 14/15 yer old kid
the were a very basic german version of the french resistance, only no where near as effective.

Only Lewis and Cw fit into the right age group to play werewolves really*...
Werewolf was yet another classic example of German double standards, the 1942 'commando order' mean that allied troops even in unifomr caught behond the lines were illegally executed as 'spies and bandits' but its totally right an din fact every german OAP or high school childrens duty to snipe ineffectivley at Allied convoys or to string fishing wire between trees at head height in the hope of decaptitaing dispatch riders (ever see those bars welded vertically to the front of late war jeeps... thats a wirecutter.).
Like piloted V1s, super tanks and the volksturm it was desperation and complete ability to comprehend they had lost the war months ago.
*(sorry Dave only messing about
)

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
My mistake they were moslty Hitler youth and young soldiers commanded by experianced officers, werewolf units just sound elite then name anyway ![]()
If its passed 9 there is a 95% chance im pissed.
No mate , they were mostly civvies unfit for active service.
*anybody* remotely soldierly had alreayd been fed into the meat grinder.
Consider the germans had 'ear and stomach' battlaions of soldiers unfit for frontline service but pressgangaed into service on the atlantic wall, 15 year olds in the hitlerjugend and volkstrurm and girls crewing flak guns... what standard of soldiers do you think were left for 'werewolf?
On paper i think what your on about was definatley the plan but bear in mind hitler was convinced entire divisions stil existed on paper and nobody dared tell him they were barley company strength.
Its weird though as liek i say i've just finsihhed reading about all this, its interesting stuff.
One sas vet recalls that if you shot one of them the rest burst into tears and cowered as they were generally about 14.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
As Dave mentioned, i think everybody thinks its a great idea but we need to build up a core of Russian gamers first , whereas a partisan vs axis game is doable as the partisan kit is cheap and by combining civvie and russian military kit you cna slowly build up a red army outfit.
But i agree, Phoenix Urban woudl make a fantastic Stalingrad.
DISCLAMINER: PERSONAL OPINION FOLLOWS - NOT CIA OPINION.
Right i personally think that the best scenarios have quite 'tight' sides. By this i mean its German Vs British or Partisan Vs SS, rather than Axis Vs Allies.
I feel that having everybody on the same team with a common 'identity' makes for great looking game and fosters 'team spirit.
Although US, Brits, French, Canadian and Resitance on one side and SS, Heer, Italians and Japs on the other is *technically* a wwii game it doens t feel right to me.
I'd rather see games based firmly on theatres, battles or operations as to me they 'feel' better and create more of a feeling of 'being in war movie' - perhaps thats the re-enactor in me.
The flip side of this is its bloody hard to do. Everybody does this for their own reason and everybody has their own fave unit and a reason for doing that unit, perhaps you liked band of brothers so you do 101st or perhaps your dad was a brit commando so you do commandos etc.
We've done it once at Arnhem and i feel it worked *however* it did mean that some guys couldnt or wouldnt play as they couldnt get UK kit aranged or only wanted to play US or Russians.
So you have to risk leaving some folk out.
The compromise is to create the 'resistance' roles or do even looser fictional operations where everyone can come along.
So what i'm trying to say is yeah Stalingrad would rock but if we did it now i think its a pretty safe bet that 30 axis places woudl sell out in a week, we'd get 5 russians pay up and then the remaining 25 places woudl be a slog to fill.
Just my thoughts, i'd be interested to hear what others think.
Again please bear in mind: I DO NOT SPEAK FOR CIA ON THIS POST.
Just my own thoughts.

Gadge raises some really valid points that perhaps we could do with some feedback on .
As we've planned the games, we've struggled between historical accuracy (ie only Brit Airborne at Arnhem) and inclusion for the widest range of players ( Joint Allied forces at most other games) .
TBH we'd like to do things in a more authentic style , more closely representing the actual forces involed in historical combat , but that would either mena smaller games aimed at players who have the kit, or asking that people get yet more load out's for odd one off games .
If you throw in the Ostfront, theres not many folk I've met who would get as excited about prtraying the 999 1/2th Guards Infantry Division as they would the 101st or 9th SS .
So , give us your thoughts .
i would help fill the russain team out as a partisan, if the germans were full, or no one was joining the russains, also id do resistance, in a west front game,
but i couldnt get anymore loadouts
had to sell my US ww2 gear to fund my german loadout, the wife will only let me do "one thing",
if a aeg ppsh came out, i think the russain side would fill as quickly as the germans did when the mp40 clone came out ![]()

^ This is very true. especially when you consider you can get a set of genuine ww2 russian kit for about £100, which is the same price as a chinese cheapro german set.
i'm about to order a set for me and gadge from frontofrussia anyway, just because if someone does release a ppsh, i can only see the prices going up as demand increases.
As far as game types go, i'm also on the 'more accurate' side of things, with set nationalities per game. i've got both allied and axis loadouts now, and not spent a fortune to be honest, so if i get some civvies i can do pretty much anything now, even partisans, if need be.
Gadge whats this werewolf book called?
