It's a difficult one and a bit of a chicken and egg situation.
There won't be many people with Russian kit until there's a chance to use it, and you can't put a game on until there's enough people with the kit.
In a bid to break out of said quandry we'll probably get some Russian stuff at some point anyway with a long term view of getting some use out of it.
Similarly we didn't buy British kit just for Arnhem but with the view that we could then use it again and again at other events.
The point being, rather than advertising for example, a "one-off Eastern Front Game", sell it along the lines of "first of our planned regular Eastern Front games".
I agree with what many have said about closer uniformity and having people fighting for a particular regiment e.g. 9th SS Hohenstaufen or 101st etc - though not everybody wants to be the either regiment/division so unfortunately difficult to be feasible.
A good idea is to see closer knit groups of WW2 airsofters, the 27th Penal Panzers being a good example, from reading the forum the Allies could use some closer knit groups!
Though also very difficult due to traveling for many and organisational issues, i'd like to see CiA do a regular monthly game probably like a training day/weekend, traveling between numerous sites. Kind of like a open day CiA style.
I for one dont mind if things become tighter in what sides are involved for each game. Sure I like playing as 82nd(or in the case of my inf loadout rangers) but if a brit only game or russian only game came up with a fair amount of notice I wouldnt mind buying the kit to fit it. I enjoy having the several lots of kit to wear for the events and open days
Heck if the dday gunman event wasnt going on I'd have a set of brit gear already heh. Alas I needed a inf loadout for that
so the brit stuff can wait until xmas. anyway im side tracking here.
What I mean to say is like others I like the immersion into it all. and wouldnt mind getting bits of kit to facilitate that. heck wait til you see what I have planned for wotan hehe. and as others have said it doesnt have to be done expensivly. Langolier didnt have any cash to do churchills so we managed to get him a modern repro denison and no2 dress trousers for £35. some putees for £2 or 3 and then a wool hat that looked liked a commando comforter. webby was kind enough to lend him some webbing and he was set. all for well under £50

Some interesting thoughts coming out . By the way the most number of events we are ever likely to put on is 4 a year . As Ewart points out they take a lot of planning and organising and all of us have other commitments . We also have to "borrow" other peoples airsoft sites to host our events , so one a month would be far too many .
We have also tried to make them a bit different from normal open days as such , the phrase "skirmish in silly uniform" was one we were keen to avoid .
B&A's point about one in a series of games is a nice idea if we could commit to it, but unlikley to really take off unless we upped the number of games.
Keeps the thougths coming though .
I think Barry is asking for more than just a one-off, which is fair enough.
And indeed , it is a chicken and egg situation. When we planned the Bulge game we knew we could probably gather a team of US but there just weren't enough Axis players across the country. So we make the uniform rule fairly relaxed and hoped this would attract new players.
What actually happened was that because there was a WW2 game to go to players who has always wanted to get into WW2 Axis but didn't want to look a dick at open day games suddenly had the excuse they wanted. Bingo, a full side of German in pretty good kit.
For the Arnhem game again we took at punt that if we present a game with Brits only then players would be sufficiently motivated to come up trumps - and they certainly did. (We did have a fall-back option just in case, which is where the Dutch idea came in, and became a success all of it's own).
So, no reason not to do it again for the Ruskies esp. given that kitting up is so reasonable. We have a pool of British, US and German players (some of which can mutli-task) - if there is a pool of Russian players then there will be more games on a Russian theme, one way or another.
Part of our CiA constitution is to encourage other sites to take up WW2 themes. They haven't done so historically because of the perceived lack of players. No such excuse now!

Just an idea, and Ive not discussed this with the other organisers, but could Gunman's D-Day game be a kick-start of a historically defined series of events on both German fronts over the following year from '44 - '45 ending in an urban style Battle for Berlin?

Not a bad idea that one . What happens after we fought the Battle of Berlin
move on to Korean War instead ![]()

Do it Star Wars style, start at "A new hope" (D-Day) and finish on "Revenge of the Soviets" with the Red Army pushing the German's out of Russia.
Then when it all finishes do the post-modernist thing and do it again! But with more accurate uniforms (chances are in about five years they'll be more uniforms per airsofter then there is financial sense making even better games!), as well as (fingers crossed) an array of cheap WW2 era weapons on par with the MP40.
So would players welcome the odd game that required specific uniforms?
Say
Waffen ss vs US inf in a battle of the hedgerows?
If it was limited size game, say 20 a side?

i'd be quite happy with that, even though at the moment, i couldn't take part.
An SS loadout is a long way off yet, and as i'm not bothered about doing gum-chewers, but i'd be happy to sit that one out, as i know the next one would be one i'd be 100% able to take part in as i've already got brit, GD wehrmacht (and soon to have russian) loadouts.
so yeah, even though i'd have to sit it out, i'd be happy if it meant more delineated games in the future.
heres a scenario as Alan Fluff Freeman would say 'not alf' ...I call it
'The Attack of the Unexpected'
Location -Walmington by the Sea, Dateline-1942....
An alternate TV universe where Dads Army, Dr Who, Day of the Jackal, Carry on Films, St Trinians, etc collide, heck you could also have Worzel Gummidge, Blue Peter etc thrown in for good measure if you want....
Picture the scene...the Walmington platoon have been detailed to guard a new top secret scientific device being tested by none other than the Doctor himself!
Winston Churchill is making a secret visit to the area with Thomson his trusted bodyguard, a liasion officer and driver....
Warden Hodges is determined to get one over on Mainwaring (as ever)...
The Sea Scouts are on manouvres
The St Trinian gals are on a cheer up the boys campaign with some local based commandos...
However not all is well...
in a laboratory someone nearby a mad professor/cult leader/ Davros/ Cybermaster/the Master??? is building a plan to take over Walmington and then the world...
some Daleks have crashlanded and need to make some Dalek troopers to take over...
Sea Devils are getting mighty annoyed by all the bombs dropping and the effluence from the Novelty Rock Emporium clogging their breeding beds
A German bomber crew has landed with photos and top secret documents that must get back to Germany at all costs...
A German plot has been hatched to assassinate Churchill...(need I say more?)
So what could happen?
you've got a Home Guard platoon of up to 20 with several named characters who get 4 hits before regen. -1 officer, 2 NCO's, 2 Engineers, 1 medic, 1 heavy weapons, rest privates (all those extras)
they can have 1 van, a m/c combination and several bikes
Dr Who plus companion, Ministry overseer and 2 assistants.
Churchill, Thomson, 2 staff
squad of Commandos-officer, NCO, engineers, snipers, etc
squad of St Trinians
Sea Scouts
Villagers-bobby, Vicar, Verger, Warden Hodges plus assistant/cronies, several un-named extras for possible turning into Dalek troopers, etc etc
Mad Professor+ assisstant or sexy sister (Carry on Screaming?), + fanatics/clones/cybermen/etc
Daleks +Dalek troopers created by Daleks
squad of annoyed Sea Devils
crashed bomber crew of Pilot(officer), navigator(medic), engineer, heavy weapons (gunner), bomb aimer (either additional engineer just for throwing bombs or as a private)
German assassination squad plus local assistants (start as civilians)
I would allow (temporary) alliances to be formed, note that there would be multiple sides as who on earth are the Daleks going to form an alliance with?
Daleks and the Master/mad professor can turn people into troopers/clones. Churchill can raise allies moral, Doctor can regenerate anywhere but is out of game while he does.
Everyone would start with 2 hits-named characters with 4 reflecting luck or importance to the games plot/storyline. Exceptions to the hits rule would be 'doddery old fowk' who start with just one hit-the vageries of old age eh?
Daleks would be classed as vehicles and would only be destroyed by either engineers or the Doctor
over to you guys....
lol

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Not quite a CiA scenario!.
In any case the Daleks would win.

I think if someone was brave enough to do it it could just work, maybe as a sites comedy christmas game, i'd probably play.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
well you could trim it down a tad to just Dads Army plus Dr Who....btw the Daleks always loose!
Bugger where did he get all that from - have you let slip with the hidden forum access again CW ?
Gadge I was seeing you as pvt Pyke!!!! Chomley W as Wilson, Major as a certain well known Captain....
also Helga and Anne-St Trinians? ![]()
I'm sure David Tennant will come along do one of his "I love Humans" speeches then systematically wipe out the Dalek's with a sonic screwdriver - so the game would be over in about 45 minutes!
I did a miniature wargames scenario once wiht home guard vs german paras.
There was village bobby in it too and the main plot was the home guard trying to get a man to the village phone box to make an 'alert call'

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Ah yes, but the Daleks will never die - still going and I have been watching it for 100 years!
