Exactly what i think Pike thats why WW2 airsoft is so great its about having fun its about playing at soldiers acting out what you see in the movies its also about the history and learning building loadouts gives you, i mean just look at my original kit compared to my finished kit, its come a long way over the year i spent building it, and its still not finished lol
I attended my first airsoft event ever at GMA Tuddenham. There werent many of us but there were many many glaring inaacuracies in regards to kit...one German was wearing modern rubber riding boots......did I look upon him as an amoeba....a piece of pond life that should go and hide away until hes spent £150 on proper footwear...no I thought myself lucky that someone had made the effort to give the impression of a German Officer and gave me someone to shoot at!
If that was Eagles has Landed ..........then bollox to you.......... they're Russian Leather boots , leather sole et all . My kit is for my pleasure and the amusement of my Kameraden within CiA...........couldn't give a monkey's if it's a farby as fuck in the eyes of re-enactors, & having done MV/LH events I'm not sure when or where all the fun got sucked out of that scene ....but it seems long gone now .
Being only a reenactor i dont know what airsofting is like, but it seems a hell of alot more inclusive and fun than reenactment atm! Reenactment is great when you first join, but then after a year or two you get dragged into the bullshit and politics!
With regards authenticity i do like near perfect kit (i do an early war 1st SS rifleman, type 1 planetree smock etc, m36 tunic early war apple green helmet mit decals etc) but being a teenager i fully understand it takes fecking ages to get it that way, its taken me over 3 years and many mistakes to get there.
Probably the worst part of reenactment is the forums, things get very nasty there! Id even go as far as saying that 75% of problems that ive seen usually originate from emails/posts/pms.
One of the problems with authenticity is some people expect others to buy this and buy that, but when something on THEIR loadout is questioned they freak out. (this happened in my previous group, the minute the new authenticity officer started picking faults in the leaderships kit they gave him loads of grief, yet if he said anything to the normal members it was ok).
You can have authenticity and no grief, but firstly it has to be able to be proved, and secondly if they have a good reason ie skint then fair play, and thirdly theres a way to do it, mention it over afew beers etc not ridicule then publically on a forum!
Vp

Come to think of it, on a space hopper wearing jeans your looked a proper
Well anyway, I'd rather have a laugh wearing the best I can get/ afford while watching you squabble with Chommers about who has won the most

No My friend - just telling it how it is, the way i think
Hear, Hear. A great deal of the problems in all walks of life, is when people start taking themselves way too seriously. i see it happen in airsoft, re enacting and any other hobby. the idea is to have fun and meet other people. Del you're spot on mate CIA is beyond a doubt the best place to be. Long may it be so. P
thanks imp -for your agreement. My thoughts were personal - just how i see things
the reason cia seems happy is,
half the players are usually pissed, and the half that arnt pissed, are pissing themselfs laughing at the half that are pissed.
yes im rambleing, not walking rambleing , just verbal rambeling,
saturday morning at work, loads happening honest!!!!!!!
AND YES THE YELLOW TOPPER IS AUTHENTIC
joseph (by the grace of god) Porta really did wear one, its a historical fact , written about in the best, and most accurate of all military history books . THE SVEN HASSEL COLLECTION
seriously , if im weclome (well not welcome , but tollerated) at CIA events , then i would say their pretty inclusive
"Take that you rotton helping of strawberry flan!"
Joseph Porta to "strawberrys and cream", in the sven hassel book ,ogpu prison
Seen than befor all it needs now is the thompson aimpoint mount i saw lol, well i went along to The Festival of History the other day in wrong kit on purpose and i got no looks or anything in fact the reinacters were fine some even asked if i wanted to join in with them, and turned many an eye whilst i was in the audience, i also managed to pick out some innacuracies with some of their kit aswell mostly post war stuff like webbing, boots, braces, RAC helmets instead of para helmets, and around 5 people stopped me and asked if i was a reinactor which i had to explain i wasnt.
Well this whole thread has gone round the houses since I last looked
Guess I'm lucky in Reenactment/LH that I surround myself with like minded people. I and those that do the same portrayals as me have a harder slog than most cos female axis kit is a complete no brainer in respects. We've recently set up a group to try and help other women by working out cheap and easy basic kit lists (first one was used by two members at belters) such as blue cotton drill overalls for flak (cheap and cheerful and can be used for multiple impressions we plan on doing). Is it farby, hell yes, can we do anything about it ? hell no, all the womens stuff is either way way too expensive (talking lots of 00s), repro stuff for axis females is few and far between or no longer in existance in PW, so the need for us to be as near as (albeit farby in some eyes) means we get to do lesser known impressions. I know other female groups that have things wrong, but I certainly don't tell them anything unless asked of me. They may like us be under the same constraints of being unable to source the nearest correct material, and one more person telling them so, only alienates yourself .
Anyways I do both hobbies for different reasons. I like the airsofting cos it doesn't matter I'm female, or that my boots are wrong cos my feet are too small for anything anywhere near authentic. But at the same time, I've not had one person say to me I'm a farb for wearing my BCH's at recent events for LH, though they'd be told if they can find the right ones in size 4 then tell me and I'll buy them (price pending of course). I would if someone asked be the first to admit they are wrong, I know that, but until they can be changed/improved (much as I do with airsofting) theres jack poop I can do about it .
Tis all swings and roundiebouts, any hobby is what you make of it WWII airsoft is a smaller community than the LH/reenactment one. Thus we all know we're great on here
, but the wider/larger LH/reenactment one has the odd bad spuds in the sack. Seems like some have been stuck with these ? in which case, your mixing with the wrong crowd, distance yourself and see there are others (lots) that think the same way.
You'll see the same names crop up again and again for both good and bad, and notice those who acknowledge and appreciate the efforts/time/financial strain are the ones that are worth knowing.
H, alledge nit picker
Back to pictures, I only have originals of females they'd be rather dull for you chaps
Del.....you been drinking again,?
the
der its del cos hes been drinking as have i and the rest of the blingen group
theres nowt so Permanent as temporary
well i went along to The Festival of History the other day in wrong kit on purpose and i got no looks or anything
On purpose?! On purpose?! Do it right or don't do it at all
As we nitpickers say
For me, personally, the authenticity standards were set over 60 years ago. I can never get a 100% but I'll do my best to get as close as possible.
I've noticed in our LH group standards appear to be slipping somewhat. Too many Small Wall Tents, wearing over seas caps over HBTs, the khaki T-shirts or sweatshirts (post-war Dutch Royal Army, ugh). Guess it's time to put an article in the club magazine.
...Nurse, time for my anti-stitch-nazi medication again!
