Spent the day scouring all the surplus and militaria shops in town to find most closed even though they were supposed to be open.
All that were open wanted top dollar for crap or were trying to pass off repro and post war junk as real.

Yesterday I stood in the rain on the Zeppelinfeld in Nurnburg thinking that much of the trouble started there and 06/06/44 wouldn't have happened and how different the world would be and why so many died and what would they have done if they had lived and would it be a better place now or was the slate wiped clean and so much other stuff.
And it was the second of 2 gigs that played to a total of 100,000 people and went out live to MTV Europe on Friday night. I'm just a roadie but thats still a Buzz.

Sure, actually getting photos isn't that difficult, she's a completely intact landing craft sunk in Portland harbour in about 18 metres of water.She's believed to have sunk either during the run up to D-Day or possibly during the departure from Weymouth/Portland.I know of 5 but only 2 are relatively intact and this is the best one, chat to you about it at Aerial.
Today, I'm raising a glass to my Grandad, John "Jack" Burrows, the RSM of the 8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars, who landed at Normandy 65 years ago today.

I have dived it , it's a bit too far down the coast for me to run charters to,but yes it is magnificient.The speciality in my area is Submarines,we have the HMS M2,HMS Sidon,HMS Safari,HMS A3, all british and intact, the P555 ( american) and the UB74 (german) all easily diveable and pretty well intact ,all in all we have something like 160 known wrecks in the area.The Luftwaffe hit Portland 46 times during WW2 and both bays were heavily mined and hunted by U-Boats ,we have a LOT of wartime wrecks.
My all time favourite is the Thistlegorm in the Red Sea, she was sunk waiting to go through the Gulf of Suez and was loaded with equipment for the british 8th army ,her holds are still full of BSA M20's ,Austin trucks,Bren gun carriers and Enfield rifles all racked up and parked .You can swim through each hold with all the vehicles sat side by side as they were parked.
Blimey, bring me up a Bren carrier next time you are down there!
