I was wondering the same Keith. Either it was such a great weekend that everyone is still recovering or it was that bad, no one wants to comment

Was an awesome weekend indeed! Just rather knackerd...
And once again; Axis won even though they numbered only two thirds of the man power us Allies had :slap:
Will try and attempt a write-up from my perspective this evening before I dive into the piles of kit I now have to sort.

EDIT: Gah, you two beat me too it! Your posts weren't there before I started to type - something else you Axis beat us on then, eh?

It was a great weekend, as always Gunman game was incredibly immersive; there was mortars and artillery and radios. Best part for me was beating off two enemy attacks on a ridge we were sweeping then calling in an artillery strike. Germans won because they had an awesome sniper presence. Allies couldn't turn round without being shot in the glasses by a sniper, coupled with the fact that the allied units on had one sniper between the lot of us.
"Daddy Dan this is Broadsword, I need you to rain em in on ridge top Fox 3. Fire for effect!"
Oh and another good part was when a Kraut threw a grenade in to the mortar pit we were defending. We all dived over the side to avoid the explosion (which we didn't) and later someone said it looked like we got blown out of the pit by the grenade haha.
Headbutting some nettles was fun too but more in the oooo ahhhh that stings kinda way!
Getting gassed was fun too haha

*looks at his map* the bit where Ginger and I were hunkered down behind a hill within sight of the jerries whilst i was calling in the artillery on that ridge was awesome. Seeing the creeping barrage as i adjusted co-ordinates and seeing the 101 follow up behind just rocked.
That part was so immersive, probably the best airsoft experience ive ever had, and i didnt even draw my weapon :)

we seemed to spend all weekend pinned down by two snipers.

Hats off the the KGB guys, not only did they look the part but they also picked us off with ease!

A ratio of 35 Allies to 19 Axis with the only German advantage being one extra sniper and the Allies still didn't win?!?!?

the kraut snipers were top quality, a couple of them would pick off a few allies then displace or fade away whenever the allies went to engage! held up a lot of troops with just a few well placed shots!
at least they didn't booby-trap stuff when they left it!

I can certainly atest to the quality of our sniper pair, as I spent a lot of Sunday morning as part of an ad-hoc group with them on the ridges above base D, harassing and repelling the numerous attacks made by the allies. I have to say the hit ratio of our 2 snipers was bloody awesome and it was a pleasure fighting along side them. :D

I think the allies mistake was not to take advantage of their superior numbers and send a large enveloping force against us. The assault waves seemed to come from groups of just 4 to 6 guys at a time which made it easy for us to hold our ground and the snipers pick them off whilst we gave support fire and medic them when nessersary.

There were a lot of times where I was nervously watching out left flak expecting guys to pop up over the next ridge at any moment and take us all out, there were some very well executed stealthy attacks which got very close to our position but again they lacked the supporting force to finish the job.

Another high point for me was joining Old Un and the SS Aufklarung squad on our final assault on Base D, With some great aggressive fire and manouvre tactics and some very well placed pyro's we were able to capture the base in the dying minutes of the game. Guy was armed with just his stick and I only had a PPK so I was just frantically running back and forth medic'ing the rest of the troops as we pushed forwards. Finally I managed to whip out the Allied flag (hitting 1 or the SS guys on the head with it  ) and jam ours in before I got hit again. Then it was a tense minute or so waiting for Josh to call ENDEX as the Allies rushed in to try to recapture the base (blowing a few of their own guys up as they rushed in on to their own grenades  ) Alas they were just too late!

All in all a great weekend and the gameplay and sportsmanship was top-notch all weekend. A big Thanks to Josh and the GMA team and Nigel for the top grub, and thanks to all my fellow players, both axis and allies.

Lol could not agree more!

The last half hour of Sunday, just after we'd pushed the Germans out of their "last" cp, we were being told by our CO - "Hold on everybody, hold what you've got and we win in 20 minutes."

Then - "Hold on for 10 more minutes for the win."

Followed by - "Just 5 more minutes guys we've got it sewn up."

Finally - "peep peep end of game, oh and by the way the Germans won."

Hats off to the outnumbered Germans though, they always seemed to have numbers in the right place at the right time. Conversely we tended to have half our force sitting around guarding CPs so actually the Germans seemed to manage to have parity or better at the schwerpunkt (if that's the right term).

The mortars were excellent fun and the CP capturing gameplay worked really well especially where the points were at road intersections which made it seem like they meant something.

EDIT - and, in case there's anybody left in the world who we haven't told - us two plus System M captured Chomley in a perfectly executed outflanking move - worth the admission price just for that.

wow what a great event. i really enjoyed being the engineer and firing the arty on the sat. a funny moment when guy and i arty'd the yanks arty gun crew and scored a direct hit on them lol. highlight for the saturday was planting a mine thngy in the middle of a clearing in front of a pill box and blowing 2 unsuspecting yanks up and scaring them shitless. apart from the that i didn't get into hardly any fire fights on the saturday but sunday was awesome. i personally didn't see the last 10 mins of battle at point d as me and cw were at point e defending but we could sure hear the crazy happenings at e.

cheers nigel for the great grub!

cheers to gunman and everyone else involved for a great weekend.

It was awsome!

Only the second ww2 event for me, both have not disappointed. I spent the last bit of Sunday guarding one of the CPs after a very hectic Saturday, but we did take three Germans out of the game very near the end. They were knackered and had spent all day trying to get near the cp but a bit of ration chocolate and they were happy the war was over for them!

Learnt a lot about the need for training, teamwork, communication and an understanding of the capabilities of each weapon type. I also need a number two as I opted for my 2000 rounds in 100 round midcaps and carrying and reloading under fire on your own is not funny! We had three pseudo brens, mine had no sights but shot well, Bleeders went about ten feet but sounded awsome, I didn't see the other. Despite that firepower, I got shot on the lip three times by a sniper, we just couldn't get the range and never had an anti sniper team available. Only the mortars saved us!

Might need to post up proper squad formations for the next one and try an balance the roles better.

I can't make Carentan so good luck everyone and if Josh reads this, thanks and can you get one a bit nearer the middle of the country for the next one?

Excellent weekend. I can't say that the Axis were unduly worried about being outnumbered - there is nothing like a challenge to get chaps motivated.

The scenario was fluid and over such a large playing area allowed for natural ebbing and flowing. Truly excellent teamwork from the Germans - Guy's commanding erm.. command, spending the whole of the first day in HQ with a map in his lap, cup of tea in one hand and a handset in the other. Comms were clear, free-flowing and precise allowing Old 'Un to place what few troops we had in the right place at the right time (that's why the sniper team caused such distress to the Allies). We didn't have enough men to camp on a CP (although we held CPA for two hours until an arty barrage cleared us out) and in retrospect placing an ambush over the mine field wasn't required esp. as when the Allies eventually brought up a mine clearing team they realised they had forgotten the mine detector :ghey: .

We could have done with a couple of m/g's esp when defending the pill box area but meh, we had a Thompson! Our poor mortar crew rued the day they volunteered - that thing is a brute to drag round the site but wow, get the range and windage right and it came into it's own.

While we did have the advantage of three bandages it turned out to be valueless - a lot of time there were too few of us to stretch to medicing so more often than not bled out after the first bandage. Three men to take a CP did help though (as opposed to Allied five men).

Hope we gave the Commandos a run for their money - we kept them under observation and when the sniper team had closed the net I gave them a chance to surrender. Unsurprisingly they spurned the offer and legged it causing much mowing down but two bods slipped through :(

Still, the Allies triumphed in the noise department - why whisper when you can shout?! - and our silent patrols and movement paid dividends. On Sunday I think the Allies made a tactical mistake by ignoring their HQ and lightly defending CPE meant we were in a strong position giving us a choice of CPA or CPD to win the game. We held CPA (crossroads in Allied parlance) for a long time but the Allied final push to retake it just allowed us to re-group and take CPD to win the game.

So, some great battles, great location, the weather held out, Nigel's catering made life easy. Well done players, well done Gunman.

the extra bandage and that only 3 germans were needed to capture a CP where the Allies needed 5. It was a balanced game. As far as objectives went, every allied objective was achieved on the saturday, including that mined road (It was us Brits clearing the road of mines, a success thats gonna help us at Carentan ;) )

It was the kill ratio that really did us in, and the sniper fire was immecible, even if i did feel targeted (that might have been my swagger stick and loud voice lol)

Losing on the sunday was (and lets be fair) a mix of complaincy on the allies part, timing on a few keen Germans' part, and a healthy dose of luck. Remember that the captured CP in the dying moments of the game had been re-taken by yanks and brits but the game ended mid-way through the 60 second count needed to change flags so it didnt count ;) thats how close it was.

it was however, amazing fun, especially being told to surrender when our commando patrol was ambushed behind enemy lines on saturday......more amazing that some made it back :)
