That is a pretty specific jacket, Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland (1940-42 version) before they became a panzergrenadier division.

For the other 500 infantry regiments in the German Army, you need to lose the GD shoulderboards and cuffband.

I'm not very clued up about differences in price and quality for German uniforms, other people can comment better. I wouldn't worry too much about ripping stuff though, just sew it up again for that frontline look. One thing you have to watch out on repro jackets is all the buttons falling off, I re-sew all mine.

Cheers
Martin

First thing I will be getting is the PPS k98 rifle. Friend of mines did a review on it and loved it. Also a reason why I got into WW2 again :happyclap:

If you're interested in the pps k98 a few of us are planning on making a group order on them with hopes of getting a discount, there's a thread for it on the ww2 airsoft weapons section though not a lot of discussion is currently going on there. I'll be sending an email to Landwarrior today to see if they'd be willing to help us out.

That's exactly why I asked here. That sort of information is very helpful!

I got a bit carried away with the "shiny shiny" aspect before thinking.

Now leaning more to the gavinmilitaria.com, as at least someone here has said they're good.

Sounds good! I would be very interested in this.

Alternatively, I am lucky enough to have a Trade Account with eHobby asia, whom I have spent in the region of $4000 with over the last few years.

Buy 1 for USD$227.00 each

Currently out of stock. Would prefer LWA though if possible. With spare mags :D

These boots came recommended by a friend. I really like them and think they'll suit my M36 Tunic look well.

Apparently the guy who runs Sovietarmystuff (Vladimir) has gotten his act together lately, previously there were all kinds of stories on Red Alliance about the wrong items getting sent, wrong camouflage patterns, that kind of thing, but something as simple as boots shouldn't be difficult to get right. Though I notice they cost $50 from Sovietarmystuff, add shipping from Crimea Ukraine Russia, you might be able to find some East German or Soviet jackboots for cheaper on EBay.

Hopefully this works...

Put together a VERY rough to buy list. May well change boots as recommended and get the Greatcoat at a later day.

Kit Update

Well thanks to my new friend Kav, I now have the majority of my "gear and webbing":

Trenching Tool and Pouch
Belt with Heer Buckle and Y-Straps
Cooking tins
Gas Mask Canister
Zeltbahn and Straps
Real Issue Water Bottle (39 dated under cover).
K98 Pouches
K98 Sling

Not a bad start :)

Still to buy:

Uniform, Helmet, A-Frame (Maybe), Jack Booties.

Sounds good - you've gone for a lot of kit that some would not - will look great once you get the helmet and uniform. The A-frame is not essential.

Having had both Spearhead and Gavin uniforms, I can say that there is no comparison - Gavin is far better quality.

One thing I love is kit! Gonna have to get some tent pegs and stoves as well. :happyswing:

As Steiner says, the A frame is not essential, and in fact a more useless piece of load bearing equipment I have yet to come across. An empty gas mask tin is far more useful. You can just clip the zelt to the D rings on your Y straps, or onto your belt or do the cool WW1 style assault pack thing with it wrapped around the mess tin on the back vertical strap.

If you have pennies to spare then a bayonet and frog are handy. SnS do rubber K98 bayonets to turn your K98 into a fearsome close combat weapon, although not that fearsome when the blade wobbles around.

Glad to see you have joined the ranks of e-tool wearers :)

wrt alternate uniform suppliers, I've got some stuff from http://www.militaria-net.co.uk, M36 jacket and trousers. Not hugely cheap but seem decent quality and excellent service.

Cheers
Martin

Definitely looking to get one of the rubber bayonets sorted! Just so happens my local Airsoft site is run by Warren (SnS owner) where I'll be doing most of my ww2 "skirmish" games. Hopefully he'll have some gaiters that will fit my mammoth legs...

Bought a pair on eBay stupidly assuming one size fits all:

:giggle:

Uniform wise I was quite set on buying from Gavin Militaria, but their site seems to have been down for some time now. :(

Umm, I think the German gaiters are only one size, unlike British ones. Could be wrong.

You could always make some longer straps out of a piece of leather, or move the buckles.

Warren at Shoot and Scoot is having a look into his stock for me. He thinks there are different sizes.

I can look at making mods I suppose.

So...

Jackboots are out as the biggest ones I have found are 40cm around the top, and my tree calves are 52cm. Pretty gutted about that.

Gaiter wise, I'm going to have to look at moving the position of the straps to see if I can "stretch" them to at least join up. Might be a little gap. Failing that I'm gonna make some myself.

I hate being a monster.
