Welcome John - yes it's a lot of fun, and I was always a WWII nut before I discovered there was such a thing as WWII airsoft.
The first piece of advice I would give is to take your time with decisions. Have a good look around the site, and the kit guides, etc, and decide which side you would like to portray. Then ask on the specific forum section about what kit to get, and where to get it from. Like others, I spent money on unnecessary kit at the beginning. ![]()

Hello and welcome to CiA John.

Hi John,
You can join whichever sub-groups takes your fancy - PBI, Landser, FJR2, whatever. Many of us are members of more than one.
There are no real requirements to belong to any of them other than an interest in that unit. Groups like PBI have a fairly stringent dress code for public re-enactment displays but a much more lax one for airsoft games. That said, you don't need to be fully kitted-out to attend either. If you come across as a nice guy on the forums then you will be able to borrow pretty much anything from current members.
I'll echo Steiners advice along with everyone else. Research well before you buy and save yourself the expensive mistakes that all the rest of us have made ![]()
