I can lend you some hose tops...

Red flashes... sabre sells them very cheaply. I was going to lend mine to Gadge, but if he doesn't want them then you can borrow them.

Biege or Khaki hose or long socks , the same as the tropical kit , the red flashes are easy to make with a bit of red cloth tape , most drapery shops sell it for a few pence a metre.

Anyone know where leather straps for tin helmets can be got - I've not seen a single pic of BEF with a stretchy strap (or net for that matter)!

Leather straps could mean its a WWI shell. Which pics have you been looking at?

Contemporary news pics in mags - all with leather straps. When was the elastic strap introduced?
Loads of chaps in jerkins!

When watching early movies (eg the way ahead) you tend to see a mix of stretchy and leather straps. Though those are late war.

Heh, hopefully by Ariel I'll have a liner attached to my brodie helmet... :)

Have you got a pic of the leather helmet straps ? If there's no specific brass or metal ware on them I can probably knock them up. One of the advantages of doing a lot of Dark Age stuff is that you either develop leather working skills or you spend a lot of money ! However I assume they are buckled, so sourcing the correct buckles will be the hard part.

Well, I've been reading around and it looks like from 1936 the Mk I Brodie helmet was fitted with an improved liner and an elasticated webbing chin strap. Although all the pics of the BEF I'm looking at clearly had earlier Brodies with the leather straps.

So, either strap is fine. Not sure if it's worth going to the trouble of making a leather strap though as the can be had for a tenner. You will have to make a wire 'bail arm' (for want of a better description) to pass the strap through the helmet tang and in any case, the strap is fixed to the liner, not the shell (as the elastic strap is).

Nice complete helmet though for £50 http://www.militaryhistoryworkshop.co.u ... ductId=244

Right, after speaking to Pete about this, i'm def. going as RTR tank crew, along with him and his bro as i've already got all the other kit apart from two bits of insignia.

Talking to Gadge on the was back, i was debating converting some '49 pattern (well, getting the missus to!) and then repairing the car in it a few times so it ends up ditched in oil and car-related muck. pretty much all the tank crew i've seen in action photos rather than staged all looked like they'd been living in the oil sump between battles...

Believe me, my cars need enough time on them to get me oily enough, thank you!

Anyway, this is obviously all on the proviso that a stranded tank crew is acceptable to the game/scenario, seeing as the actual units aren't announced yet, and I'm not mad keen on wearing a kilt and getting shot in the whatnots.
