The making it might be fun, if thats what floats your boat, but it would be a bitch to actually use and carry.

Neil the point were lightheartedly trying to make is that

1) you wont need it as the tunnels are largly lit, too much for NV anyway

2) If you were to need it as it were dark enough then it would be unfair to let one player have such a distinct advantage.

yeah?

That level of NV is only as good as a torch and gives your position away in nearly the same way... there's a red glow from the illuminator.

The level of smoke in the tunnels gets so high that torches are frequently useless and the NV will be just as useless...

From experience, I wouldn't bother with NV in those sorts of conditions.

BTW, nobody was using NV at UCAP when we visited.

Oh that and it was only issued in the defence of Berlin in the last month of the war according to Kermit...

Problem is that we don't want everyone running around with NV... hence its best just not to allow it.

If I could be sure allowing it didn't mean that the theme of the game would be lost as everyone started to get the kit, or suddenly we had a German NV Corps created then I'd be happy to have it. After all as has been pointed out its not completely out-of-theme for WW2.

However, its not really where we want to take the game.

Its not a personal attack on you, we'd already decided a long time ago that we didn't want to go down this route!

In no way were you 'flamed' Neil.

I actually said it would be cool as long as any advantage was offset by a disadvantage (e.g. weight)

I also asked that it be a good replica and not just as someone said an NVG mono taped to an AK

well everyone seemed to get a little serious about what was a light hearted comment the vampyr is just so bizarre i thought even a replica one would be fun, sorry if i took it the wrong way, but it felt like it . Youve seen my modelling abilities (garand, mp44) i f I made one it would look and (almost) weight the same.....I never use night vision i think its fairly pointless for airsoft anyway... :)

Sorry mate, didnt mean to flame you. If you are making it then A us Vietnam radio frame might be a good starting point for the backpack, just re painted should do the trick.

In the future, perhaps a 'secret weapons' game could be cool. Perhaps a UCAP, or an urban site. It could be like a fantasy Wolfenstein-like Nazi installation, with NV and all sorts. Perhaps the nazis could have modded kit, too.

Gaffa tape? Tut-tut - gummed brown paper parcel tape and string would be much more in-period. :P :P

No need to use tape (or anything else) we just held our torches when we played a UCAP at the weekend. You only really need them in a few areas.

If only my k98 wasn't 'useless' in CQB I would have swapped my scope for a torch :D

i think barbed wire would be an effective period substitute.

They did have night vision in WW2, only it came in the form of a can of carrotts :)
