It says there that the BAR is select fire... is that true on the airsoft version? If so, we can switch it to semi auto only when on the hoof.

500 for the bar

its a total half way house then

twice as much *nearly* as the rifle or smg in ammo but half that of the LMG?

Make it three 190 rounders spread like I said (i.e. 570 rounds)... that's the size of the mags. Semi auto only when not prone/supported (or short bursts if no semi auto available)

That sounds fair to me. :good: Being High caps you won't get the full 570 anyway.

I'd still like to try the MGs using short bursts un-deployed but I'm happy for them to stay as they are for now. Given the weight of them, and the ww2 player mentality I don't think we'd need to worry about them becoming the M249 of ww2 airsoft.

i agree richard, we( the royal we) are very disiplined, but i like the idea of weapons deployed, when i was on the bren at lightning( even though you fired more rounds through it than i did) i liked the 'role' of gunner, having to look for a good fire position and oversee the riflemen was great.

Yes I see your point, and it is a mindset I have tried to get into when ever I've used a support weapon (which isn't very much I must admit). I'd like to be able to find a balance where a support gunner can use his weapon undeployed in an absolute emergency but has to remain depolyed the rest of the time. Unfortunately I can't think of a workable solution- its all down to the way the player chooses to play.

Sounds like a good solution has been found. The same rule could apply to the FG42 if one ever turns up; if the ammo cap on the mags are similar?

Well the real ammo capacity is the same, the airsoft one is whatever you make it! :slap:

Had an email from Tomio at Shoei last week about a production run of FG42 model guns so I expect they'll do an Escort BB version in 2010/11

Airsoft BAR is Safe - Full auto - full auto, the real thing had 2 RPM speeds, airsoft 1 is just 2 modes of full auto, i havent been able to tell the difference in speeds if there is one.

VFC BARs go through a mag in about 5 seconds, I had 2 190 round mags at lightning in the morning when I was using it as an assault rifle, which was just about enough for each game if I was careful. When it was the section gun and I had more ammo, and firing only when prone was a massive disadvantage to the point where i could get any elevation on the gun to shoot at the top of the birns without picking it up/clauting scaley over the head with it....

I think that is going to be true for any bipod mounted gun be it a BAR, Bren, or MG42, they are all limited to low angles of elevation when fired prone, I guess thats where the assistant gunners shoulder come in useful. Anyway I'm perfecty happy for you to use em fired from the hip when its nessersary, providing we are allowed to do likewise with the MG42's on the rare ocassions is is nessersary or practical.

I think in reality it will be a VERY rare thing with the 42's, unless the user is built like the proverbial brick out-house, its bloody hard to hold it on target for more than a few seconds, but it might be usefull if the gunner needs to cover his own withdrawal or change to a new position.

I also think Gadge's/Yith suggestion of 3 mag's (570 rds)for the BAR is spot on, more than a normal riflemans but not as much as a "proper" belt-feed Machine gun. I pressume you will have your 30cal present at the game anyway Webby? so The allies wont be short of support fire!

Yeah thats right, I think the ammo limits are fine, especially for the short snappy PBI style games! Plus it saves putting stupid amounts of fire down, which would have in reality metled the guns hehe.

.30cal will be used too, as a matter of fact the firing arc of which is better, as when on the tripod its mounted on a hinge, rather than pivot on a bipod
