Hi, In kit guides there's a pic of a guy in an M43 jacket and trousers. but I thought the 101st wore jumpsuits. Did they use both? If they did which would be the better one to get? For comfort, or simply better looks :D etc. (any other reasons to get one or the other).

For comfort: M43s

For cold weather: M43s

For durability: M43s

For historical accuracypre D-Day (Sicily etc): Non-reinforced M42s.

For historical accuracy from D-Day pre-Market Garden: Reinforced M42s

For historical accuracy Market Garden on: M43s

For exception to the norm Market Garden on: M42s

For any airborne unit: M42s or M43s (depending on date)

For airsoft: Whatever bleeding-well suits you.

NB: M43 jumpsuits replaced M42 jumpsuits in, yes you guessed it, Winter 1944! (Go figure)

Better? Not sure. More iconic, certainly...but not more functional.

I agree on the comfort points. M43 are much more wearer friendly. Plus with a re-badge you can use it for late war infantry in bits of Italy and some units in France. With a M42 you are stuck to airborne.

Essentially the M43 uniform was the first truly modern combat uniform and its influence can see be seen on combat uniforms to this day. I really must wear mine more and get it looking as battle weary as my M42s do.

"Soldiers live out of their pockets" was the biggest idea behind the design of the M43.

The M43 uniforms and buckle boots appeared earliest in Italy but purely for infantry. Much of the front line supply was gobbled up by rear-echelon personnel there though.
