Hi all,
I am looking into getting myself an M43 jacket and trousers, however looking on a few odd sites (SOF, EM, MN etc), they all seem to be very dark in colour compared to the ones worn in say band of brothers.
Can anyone point me in the direction or provide links to some that resemble the image above in terms of colour.
Thanks

Then again, looking at some more including At The Front, the BoB image might just be edited heavily in post production to make it look a bit more khaki and brown

Don't know too much about US kit but I would imagine that the ones used on those productions would have been aged and weathered as the real tunics would have been, rather than the vibrant brand new uniform that a retailer would sell. Just a guess though!
Band of brothers had quite desaturated colour so everthing looked drab. If you buy a new one just use it and wash it a couple of times and it will have the look. Not too hot or i will shtink and dry canvas rigger pockets flat to avoid white lines.

You may have clicked the 'quote' button rather than the 'edit' button, there Ranj
But yes, I agree with Ranj on this one, the colour balance is altered to give a gritty/atmospheric look about it. One of my favourite pictures of me WW2 airsofting was taken by a chap with a very posh camera and photoshop tweaking afterwards - looks like a still from a war film! Colours are just like in these movies - softened and darkened with shadows enhanced.

As others have said do not use films or TV as a guide to colours. I would suggest taking a read through the historical reference section of At The Front Militaria, here's a good start with a page all about the M1943 uniform:

Didn't sof do the uniforms in band of brothers as I saw quite a few from the actual filming being sold on the website.

Dont think SOF supplied the uniforms but like a lot of other suppliers, after filming ended they bought up quite a bit of BOB clothing and props and still have some left over.
Was told that a mix of stuff was used during filming from original items to high end repros and post war look alike stuff for the extras not in main shots etc.
Believe that the uniforms for the main actors were mainly if not all supplied by S M Wholesale in the USA(or so I was told) and a lot of the extras were wearing ex Norgi Army M43s of which there was a lot available cheaply after filming but not so much these days. The Norgi M43s are excellent quality as of course they were made to the highest quality what with being military issue.
