Heyy

Just pinned the Insigs on my tunic and was wondering if I got them in the right place

EDIT: I've notice the left collar tab is upside down
EDIT 2: Replaced a photo-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

that looks right to me..., but someone is bound to say that the Waffen SS weren't issued field grey HBT uniforms - only dot camo

HBTs are fine for W-SS, they were issued for 2 years before Peadot even existed.

Insignia placement looks correct ,after the correction. Are you planning to use those shoulderboards or do you have another set?

There is probably some regulation about the exact height of the sleeve eagle, but from period photos there seems to be considerable variation! Looks fine to me. I just eyeballed mine until it looked right.

Cheers

Are they as dark green as they look or are they really more of a grass green? I only ask as dark green would be an unusual choice for W-SS as it would essentially make you recruitment personnel with that rank.

SS Panzergrenadier wore white waffenfarbe.

I'm afraid SS panzer grenadiers wore white waffenfarbe, although Epic site just says 'Grenadier' for dark green.

I wondered if dark green might be Waffen-Grenadier (as in the various SS Waffen-Grenadier Divs), but dark green does indeed seem to be the SS recruitment service, although it can also be 'special duties'. Special duties for the SS might have rather unfortunate connotations.

I'd send them back and get a pair with white waffenfarbe.

Cheers

Well I had alook on google an there was many detail pictures with the shoulderboards and the purpose of this thread was to double check I got the Insignias in the right place.

I'm not overly fuzzed if some of the details are wrong.

I'll get some white ones later down the line, the current one might look good for a social :P

Thanks for the help

I just assumed the SS used the M42 HBTs prior to Peadot but I guess not. Shows what I know about HBTs/Drillich. I just man up and wear wools in Summer, its only the UK after all.

although it can also be 'special duties'. Special duties for the SS might have rather unfortunate connotations.

In this case its fine; its technical specialists, linquists and other skilled persons. I think they had special shoulderboards though and were usually NCOs or above to give them authority.

Just get a Black Laundry marker and re-colour them and you are sorted as a SS Sturmpioniere :good:

Green is correct for heer Panzergrenadier. As I think I have posted before don't get hung up on exactly which shade. A guy did some detailed research into who wore what shade and found that green was green. There were official shades for grenadier and other branches but in reality they wore all shades. He used surviving boards that had regimental numbers attached so he could filter who was who. Nice work.

For heer IIRC there are about 6 shades of green from light, turquoise through to dark green. As poacher says, don't get hung up on it. If you want the white boards, why not use some thick fabric paint to re-colour the piping?
