ok, apologies if this has been asked before. But can anyone vouch for the reliability of these guns? also what is the range/fps? do the mags leak? Just brought a tanaka kar98k, and am now interested in gas guns!

cheers in advance

I had a M1, its piss poor in the winter & needs cocking every time, ( single action ) the M2 I hear is gas blow back, my advice if you don't own one yet buy a thompson

Hi, P.J.,
Ihave a Marushin m2 carbine and am quite pleased with it. Obviously you probably will not be allowed to skirmish with this weapon, for two reasons..one, it will be above one joule power and two, strictly speaking the M2 was never used in WW2 as it only came out during the last few weeks of the conlflict.
That said, it is a well made weapon ( although there have been a couple of teething problems down to poor Q.C. at Marushin), but works fine now I have sorted it.
F.P.S. will vary according to temperature. All gas guns are poor performers below about 15 degrees . On a moderately warm september day ( 17 degrees) it will acheive 330 fps with .34 grain bb`s and green gas , Well above the 1 joule limit for skirmishing and fps will be higher in the summer months.
Accuracy is excellent and range also very good. I haven`t tested at long range yet, but the bb`s fly straight as a
die out to 30 yards.
I hope this is of some help. I cane-mail you some pics if you wish.

Thanks all....Iv'e checked with my site and they say it's ok to use 8mm there, plus iv'e seen a few of our group use m2's. But most seem to suffer from mag leaks though.... Just wondering if the new batch is any better.

Heh the new ones suffer from leaks too eh? I had one of the old 6mm M1s a few years back and the valves were always leaking. So much so it was a standard fix to simply superglue them into place (and plug up the 2nd valve altogether as for some reason they had 2 valves).

No longer involved in airsoft.

I have 3 of the 6mm mags and they all leak, albeit very slowly, so its not a really big problem!

Can't vouch for the M2, but from experience I though the M1 Garand 8mm was a very hard weapon to skirmish with. The blowback on it always needed tightening, and it wasnt very accurate in the wind. Only blewback in winter whilst using Propane, and did not work whatsoever in the rain! Churchills Revenge *cough*

I'm gonna do the tuneup that Guinness posted up here, as soon as I can get some loctite.

Oh, and my gun, which Tom has...

I've just been trying out my new, i.e. 2nd hand off Gunman, M2 Carbine and it works fine on full auto (which I don't want) but not on semi (which I do want).

Have had it stripped and lubricated everything that moves plus filed down all the runners.

The problem is the blowback has enough power to cycle the bolt back enough to feed a new bb in, but not enough to re-cock the trigger. Thus it fires a burst no problem, but after a single shot and after each burst it needs to be re-cocked by hand.

I'd put up with that but because it cycles a new bb into the chamber when it's re-cocked you end up shooting two out at once.

Have also tried just filling one of the gas valves in case one was for the blowback and one for shooting - the idea being not to bother about blowback at all and just use it as a bolt action. But the two valves don't seem to have independent functions, the second must simply be a reserve tank or something.

Bit of a long shot but does anyone know what to do about the above?

what gas are you using barrie? sounds like the old problem of not enough power in the gas.

It says HFC Gun Power on the front and "super power green gas" on the back.

I'm a bit of a gas noob but thought super power should have done it.

Not sure if it's actual Green Gas that everyone goes on about but if so should I be using that at all?

EDIT- it is green gas - this is it -

I bought some of that a while back. I dont think its actually green gas as it struggled to cycle the HFC baretta someone leant me. you need something like this

thats what I use

On a slight tangent how are you finding the range etc on it? been tempted by one for ages but 8mm puts me off as generally hear bad things about 8mm in general

I just got one of the 8mm ones, and while I haven't skirmished it yet, I'm very impressed with both the quality and operation of it. It seems to shoot straight and hard, but the two valves thing does confuse me. I've fired it in my hall every night since I got it  , and it's never screwed up on me yet - unlike my M1 Garand. As I mentioned in another thread, it appears to be a 'second edition' M1, which is really just a single shot restricted M2.

Barrie, I think Josh mentioned something about the trigger problems at F&O, he might be your best bet to ask. He said the trigger hangs and just needs reshimming or something.

Josh did say the receiver was sticking a bit and I was fully aware it needed some looking at. He thought it was the runners that needed a bit of filing down, which I've tried but no joy.

Will order the gas Rhys mentioned but in the meantime I might try taking the whole action to bits to see if there's a bit of grit or something because it's definately much tougher to pull back when the trigger needs cocking.

Will let you know how well it shoots when I get the new gas.

The trouble is I love it now and want to use it instead of the M14/Garand.

You could rent it out to me so I don't have to buy an M14 and convert it

been seriously considering getting one myself. would really like a m1 though rather than a m2 as im not a massive blowback fan plus the m1s a little more compact mag wise etc

The M1 was the first proper airsoft gun I ever handled, nearly bought the critter as it looked and felt so good.
It was only later that I found out it had to be cocked each shot.
If they had made it a 6mm non blowback, semi auto I think I would buy one even now.
Yet another case of a manufacturer resting on their laurels instead of thinking how they can improve a product. :?

I can live with the cocking each shot tbh. If i want full auto I will use my thompson. im a bit skeptical of 8mm though. aside from alot of sites not letting you use it and the extra cost I've heard such mixed reviews about 8mm that Im not sure whether its skirmishable or not

Rhys, what is the next event you are going to? If the event permits you can use my M1 8mm to asuage your douts. That go's for any one I know, 8mm is not that bad.
