Personally, I'll believe it when I see it.

Well having listened to a chinese contact on arnies, it would appear (hmmmm) that the moulding for the mg42 is complete, and they have now started to press the bodies. Hopefully it should be hitting the shops soon.

Give that the MP44 was essentially a copy of the Ultima I have little doubt that the 42 will appear at some point, it just a question of when. Its the Ppsh I'm more dubious about as they're isn't an existing on for them to copy.

But when you consider that the ultima mg42 costs in the region of £1500-£2000 compared to say £400-£450 I know what my money would be spent on, plus I have a rule that I do not buy A gun that is more expensive than my car.

I am also going to make a guess that the gearbox will be a version three, as I belive the mg42's body will be too thin for a m249 gearbox.

Nah, my gut tells me it's going to be a copy of the Ultima gearbox. Why go to the hassle of completely redesigning something when you can just copy a tried and tested design? - exactly what AGM did with the MP44. However, it will be cast mazac instead of CNC'd ally. Lets hope they haven't copied the Ultima feed system though. It sucks, and was the first thing I changed when I got my MG42.

Other issues are with the Microswitch (It's bloody tiny, and cant handle the ampage for long - I went through 3 of them in less than 8 months - now it's been MOSFET'd it can handle any battery voltage I want) and the angle of engagement of the piston and sector gear. This can be sorted by shims between the piston head and the piston.

Didn't the ultima use an AUG version 3 gearbox?

The components inside the gearbox are Version 3 AUG but the gearbox itself is completely different. The lower contains the trigger, motor, gears and microswitch. The upper contains the spring and cylinder assemblies. Quick change spring system built in as well :)

Running with Prometheus standard ratio gears, one-piece bushings (DO NOT attempt to install 6mm bearing bushings - they will break) a 360FPS spring, a Systema Turbo motor and a large 8.4v battery gave 1240RPM - pretty close to that of the real MG42. With the Mosfet fitted now, it does slightly more than that on a 7.4v LiPo pack.

**edit - geabox pics added. Please note that the front end of it has been substantially modified to get rid of the POS Ultima feed system**-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

That Ultima gearbox is an impresive bit of kit.

Nice selection of ZZ.42 igniters too Kermit :good:

Slightly off topic but I was watching the news about the Pakistani campaign in the Swat valley and noticed their helicopter door gunners were using MG42's. Ok I'm sure they are a mdern varient but it sure looked like one. A weapon first built in 42 that is still in use today :good:

That would be right, Italy, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and Yugoslavia have all built their own versions under license from Rheinmetall. In total, at least twenty armies have used, or still are using the MG42/MG3 and its variants! If it aint broke...
