I am putting together a hi-cap for the bren to accompany the mid-caps.

Am using the internals from a short AK mag but need some kind of flexible tube to bend around in a u shape from the bb output to the female feed position at the bottom of the magazine.

Does anyone know a suitable tube and where to get it? Have tried all the local B&Q types and they do plastic tube in 5mm ID (too small) and 8mm ID (too big).

Google just points me to manufacturers who will do it for me but with a minimum order of 2000m!

Any help would be much appreciated.

How about a loading tube, thats 6mm id, you could fill it with sand, seal the ends and use a hair dryer to heat it gently to bend it around a former....never tried it so don`t know if it`ll work

Hey B & A!
The long feed tube I used in my Vickers is a length of the 8mm internal dia. ally tubing they sell at B&Q and large Homebases. To get it to bend, get a hacksaw and make a series of deep slots going 3/4 to 5/6 of the way through the tube. The cuts should be spaced just over 1mm apart. Each slot formed is a little gap which allows the tube to bend and close up the gap by a tiny amount. Do lots of these cuts and each tiny amount will result in a full 180 degree bend. Either that or get hold of some poly vacuum and feed tubing from pub bar beer-tap instillations. I got two 1.2m lengths from when a student Union bar in Cambridge Uni was being re-vamped.

The larger internal diameter doesn't make a problem, as the tolerance of the tube to the BB isn't essential. Just as long as it's not too big to allow them to get to the side of each other and jam. I'd say about 8.5mm internal dia. max. But remember, you don't want it to good a fit (very close to 6mm) as when the tube is bent, it's going to close up on itself and turn oval in cross section where it bends. The beer feed tube I previously mentioned does that on tight-ish corners and thats 8mm internal dia!

The best soloution I found after much experimenting is the slotted ally tubing method. Flawless feeding.

Thanks all.

I got some 8mm aluminium tube yesterday because I vaguely remembered you mentioned it at the campfire McVickers so will try that first.

The heated feed tube idea is ingenious - might have a go just to see what happens. Plastic being what it is, it could either work perfectly or shatter into a million pieces.

Warren used a very tightly coiled spring in my .30cal, it gives you the flexibility of feeding the BBs around a bend for example.

Tim - yes please do find out where your friend gets the springs - sounds like a lot less work than the tube bending which must be good.

Webby - I might give Warren a shout and see where he gets these springs too but I always end up talking on the 'phone for about an hour and that's an hour he should be spending on our Enfields lol.

This place http://www.greenweld.co.uk/acatalog/Sho ... m_185.html seems to have ally tubing of all sizes for sale. A good option if you haven't got an accessible B+Q.

My continuous length extension spring arrived today and it's perfect, thanks for the info Kermit.

In case anyone is interested, I got it from here -

http://www.strutsdirect.co.uk/component ... 91d9112f17

for £6.83 plus VAT (Lee Springs were out of stock and had a £25 minimum order).

The one you want is TL508, it works out at just over 6mm internal diameter and can be bent into quite a tight radius without obstructing the flow of bbs.
