well, having finally managed to get round to dismantling one of the ones i've had knocking around for a while, i'm now at a bit of a loss as to what to do with it!
Here's a pic of the mechanism (borrowed from a google search, my camera battery was dead yesterday)

the front magwell part comes off too, just leaving a tubular gearbox section out of the front.
My initial idea was to use it for a MkII Sten, but looking at the motor sticking out of the back, that's looking highly unlikely Now. I suppose a MkV would be a possibility, but i never really liked the look of them as much as the all-steel Mk II's. Still, might be a case of making the best i can out of it.
It might at a push work as a ppsh41, but that involves a hell of a lot more fabrication work than the sten, so i was planning on leaving that until a later date!
Not really sure what else to do with it now! ![]()
an AEG SMLE or No.4?

an AEG SMLE or No.4?
interesting thought, actually. i'll have to measure the mech up against Gadge's No.4 and see what it's like size-wise. cheers! ![]()
To give you some idea here's a link to a K98 aeg;

A bolt action rifle made into an AEG?
You should be ashamed of yourself for even suggesting it lol

you could try and make a beretta model 38.
That would be very easy, but of no real use to me, primarily doing German (for which i've got a selection of MP40's) or Brit impressions. I don't think there's much call for an Italian side, just yet.
Plus it looks a bit, well, cack.
I've already got something in the pipeline as regards a support weapon too, so i'm just having a think now. I think i may just end up going the Mk.V route.
if your thinking british how about a lanchester smg, that would be pretty cool.

Not sure many of them saw action, as they were only purchased by the Navy.

Some chap in the USA is in the initial stages of making PPSH41 kits to take the M14 gearbox ![]()

Oh it wouldn't be auto, i'd fix it in single shot mode if it were going inside a No.4!
saying that, i've got three of the cheapsoft snipers knocking around to convert for bolt actions.
and an M1? bleargh, i don't do yank toys! ![]()

Interesting thread!
I'm in the process of turning my TM M14 into a STEN MkV.
Still at prototype stage - white piping will be replaced idc etc. Have got to the stage that it will actually cycle but have yet to find the courage to cut the M14 barrel short. Prototype is presently in plastic and cardboard which is one reason why it looks a little odd
.
I've sited the mechanics as far forward as possible which will mean fabrication of a new trigger BUT it does mean I can retain a functioning safety (operated by via a narrow slot in base of the body fabrication) and can work with the existing hop-up etc (tho the feed tube turns 90 degrees). Another upside is that all the mechanics fit inside the body meaning that only the battery needs to go into the stock (making a MkII with a tubular battery a possibility???).
As said, still at prototype stage and no guarantees it'll work or will be finished. Current problem is getting the new mag feed tube the right length after which it will be a matter of siting the hop-up adjustment wheel (which will need to be cut away from the M14 metalwork and so will be a final *no return* job).
EDIT: BTW the white tube (the barrel shroud) is about 1 cm too short - it will be the correct length on the final form.
EDIT: I expect that it will be fully auto only.

Looking good - great work so far
nice one!
What type of mag is that?
Very interesting, nice to see the M14 box is suitable for a Sten ![]()
