I was at Close Action this weekend and a couple of the guys told me that there is a Hi-Cap for the MP40 on the way from our chums in China. Anybody seen/used on yet?
Also is it tru that you DIY hi-caps from the Uzi versions?

There have been posts on several forums regarding UZI/MP40 mags, i'll try and find the info- in the morning
Lo Caps are more Fun

Though if your at the oh so fun open days where every ACU wearing Armalite jockey is winding and rattling his way to victory you'll want to kick his ass with ultra-flashy German clobber and a MP40 with equal firepower!
"Fight fire with fire" as they say!
And that beleivers is why i dont do open days....
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Meh! Its perfectly possible to beat boxmags with locaps... its just harder.
Anyway open days aren't all like that... you really should try one at F&O, Gadge... I think you'll be VERY pleasantly surprised!
Theres to many reasons not to do open days andf not one good one to rich if i'm honest.
Cons:
Zero suspension of disbelief as there are too many random units playing.
It attracts geardos
'training' up new players to be fair (gucci and i discusses this)
Cliques with site teams
Higher propoertion of cheating players than themed events.
Emphasis on hicap and spray and prey play
I can only afford to play once a month or so so why spend my money on this when i could be at a themed event i enjoy.
Pros:
A good introduction to airsoft for new people
erm, i cant think of anothere....
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I can only really see one real con there that applies to F&O... the others either just don't occur or aren't really a problem...
And that's the cash issue....
Let me put it this way I'd happily play at F&O Open Days every weekend if I had the time... They are different to open days I've played anywhere else.
I think there's also an element of playing with friends rather than playing with strangers.
I suspect you know a lot of the players at F&O , and hence have a better game in the same way I know most of the players at IED .
At open days I find you know less people , so you don't work with them , and totally distrust the enemy , hence the frustration.
I'd also agree that F&O runs a lot better open days than most other sites, probably because of the opne and friendly tone set by the folks running it , unlike some other places we are not going to mention .
Only my 10p's worth
Each to their own rich, i'm just not interested in non themed events with folk in random outfits, just doesnt do it for me anymore.
The vietnam game was great, bulge was great, training day was great, the open day i went to at the old site wasnt so hot.
I like f&o, ilike the guys but for me these days airsoft has to have a them and none of this tkaing sixteen hi-caps onto the field business.
I think the thing that made vietnam and bulge better than an open day was sensible ammo limits.
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Heh... open days are all themed at F&O... they always have a plot...
Yup, so there's people in odd uniforms (me usually) but that's unavoidable at an open day.
To be honest I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone take 16 hicaps into the field at F&O. The ammo limits at the nam and bulge game made little or no difference to me... Whether they did to other people's play styles is another thing. Personally I thought the level of play was much the same as at a standard open day at the site. If it was better then it was only slightly better!
Guy, you're right I do get on well with the players at F&O and that's cos its generally a good group who are outgoing to all. The numbers at a game aren't over the top so its possible to get to know a lot of the players quickly.
I just don't think its correct to immediately "dis" open-days at all sites. They're not all spray and pray...
Gadge has his reasons for not going to them, fair enough! But by and large the reasons that actually really matter are personal to him and should not put off other players.
UZI hi-caps can be used to make hi-caps for both the TOP and AGM MP40's. There used to be an article on the Filipino airsoft forums but it doesnt seem to be live any more. Luckily I saved copies before the link died, so here they are:
For the AGM they are similar but you apparently just slide the hi-cap in the other way around!
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

before i got into themed airsofting i played at open days and modern evens with some people at my local site who became friends. so when theres not a ww2 game on i still go along for the friends. and to batter geardos with ww2 kit some sites are better than others tho. most of the cons you listed gadge i dont tend to see at my local site. however I can totally see your point too.
as for mp40's... i survived a whole day with my mp40 and 6 locaps against all the regulars at my local site. you just have to play smart. ot hit once all day and got plenty of kills. its all about tactics.
yeah but you see for me wwii kit vs modern = zero suspension of disbeleif as even an open day theme falls flat on its bum when its the waffen ss and delta force versus the team multicam, some us aircav and a falklands veteran
I just find open days abit naff, i've done enugh to form myopinion, im unlilely to change it, i'm sure everybody else has a great time at them, for me they are simply a waste of money in comparison to the njoyment i get form themed events with definite team 'impressions' be they modern, wwii or fantasy sci-fi events.
I just liek it when team a is in black, team b is in olive to strip it down to its lowest common denomninator, just make sfor a better game for me, i can get mre imeersed in it.
Each to their own.

I'm still new to all this, so I'm still enjoying going along to open days at Fireball and haven't become disillusioned yet. I'm looking forward to attending the game later in the year at F+O so I can see how much I like that - it's not too far away for me to travel to again for the odd weekend game if I like it.
Geardos don't bother me, nor do people carting hundreds of box mags around with them and essentially wasting thousands of rounds, not to mention pounds, hosing down rhodie bushes. I'm more than happy playing all day with about 700 rounds and sticking out like a sore thumb in my German kit - as long as people are honest, it only takes 1 BB to take a man out, no matter how much gear he's carrying.
Wotan may give me a slightly different take on things, but at the mo I'm just enjoying the excuse to dress up and play at being a soldier -
Like the chap before me - I wouldn't consider myself as experienced as many (some have played as many years as i've played months). I can sympathise with what's been said about open days - I have a fairly even balance between rubbish and good weeks.
Unfortunately the fact I work Sunday's prohibits me from playing special events which usually take place across the weekend or Sunday's, and even most open days.
i have to say gadge is correct..open days are to mutch of a mish mash of uniforms...there are always small groups of guys who turn up in the same gear who stick together because they look the same and this can split a team from the start, when the whole team is dressed in the same uniform (alies/axis) for example not only does it look better but the team gameplay is better, also it is easy to identify who is the enemy
i think what gadge is trying to say is that he is an experienced airsofter and what most of us like about airsoft compaired with paintball is that it is a mill sim game and there are not many armies out there that dont have some kind of standard uniform,,open days are more like some kind of rebel v rebel mush up!! like one time i turn up in full flektarn gear and end up as U.S special forces???..
I agree but only to the extent that you lump the Allies and the Axis together. Unless it's specified as re-enactment, I don't think you can get sniffy about a mix of grunts, paras and commandos or SS, wermacht, FGs or whatever. A lot of people can't afford a load-out for every day and we'll always go for our favourites if we can only buy one.
Ahh.... wait and see my friend, wait and see.
This coming March will bring a wwii game thats UK airborne vs heer.
It will be small scale i grant you and very limited numbers (ala wotan) but bloody awesome. Start getting that uk airborne or heer loadout togehter now!
