As a US infantryman who had to face off against Tins said MG42 i can honestly say just like the real thing it's distinctive sound instantly turned every advance into a Crab like sideways shuffle! (It was either that or a human impression of falling dominoes...)
Good point Blodwynn!
I only noticed this while it was being used by Lutz and I was off to one side, but the cone shaped muzzle brake does act like a sound hog giving the gun a distinctive bark!
yes it really did its job of suppressing us a couple of times
Looking back it's a good description! Plus when you look up from your foetal position it's akin to watching a side blowing blizzard pass overhead...
Have to agree brilliant gun. Thanks for letting me use Martin.
As mentioned it did its job suppressing especially in the first attack on the farm house and when we were defending the HQ first time.
Had the honour of using Tim's MG38. Surely had issues a couple of times....feeding mechanism etc. This MG42 simply worked. You were able to concentrate on the job in front of you. Heavy beast though. Tim's MG38 is surely lighter. I was finished after 2 hours up and down the hills (I would prefer the sling but get your point Martin).
Maybe one thing to mention. The feet at the front are to loose when you want to use them. I had issues getting them lined up and lost valuable time a couple of times. But maybe it was just me.
Thanks again for the pleasure of using it. If you need a 2nd gunner again, drop me a line.
Although it is post war, the Lafette 42 I have aquired is rather nice.
Fitting the 42 does require a slight modification to the gun.
There is a small lug beneath the weapon that is designed to slot into the front mount of the tripod. Unfortunately, the lug is about 1mm too wide and needs to be dremmelled slightly in order to fit. If careful, this could be done with a file, but the risk of scratching the gun would be high.
The lugs on the receiver, behind the pistol grip fit perfectly, and the trigger mechanism on the tripod also lined up too!
This will make a great addition to a fixed position and make a great objective in game. The tripod does allow firing from a consealed position (assuming this can be permitted in game) through the periscope optics but it also restricts it's movement and arc of fire making it challenging but not insurmountable.
It is very heavy indeed and I would not want to carry it at all. Thank heavens we have Blodwynn to cart the heavy stuff around!
no Glodwyn has to lug my 50 cal around lol
I dibs'd him first for the 30cal, you get your own gun monkey! Gwyneth is mine!
Great Martin. Can't wait to see it in action .
Looks awesome
Jesus wept you bastards! I'm not a pack mule...I have other duties as well!
Yes, carrying the mine detector and bazooka
I only have two hands remember...
That is why God invented slings!
I'll be advancing on my knees by the looks of it...
I'll be advancing on my knees by the looks of it...
I've fired a bullet on every continent. Nearly hit someone, too.
Seems to me as though Chris and Martin are playing a special version of buckaroo!
yes but in this case its not when he flips it all off its when he collapses into a heap under it all
i am adding the mortar/s
Non of this was mentioned by the recruiting officer i may add...
Evike currently has a special on the AGM MG42 - $450 instead of the usual $600:
