Ok, have started on my PPSH41 conversion, can anyone measure a thompson 190 rounders' length for me? Am hoping it will fit inside the PPSH's drum mag.
Thanks in advance!

Be interesting to see how you pull this one off Pete, might try it myself, got a spare m14 gearbox that may do the trick.
the 190 round hicap is 157mm from the tip of the metal surround at the top, to the base of the metal part. the winding mech sticks out about another couple of mil below that.
if you take the mech out of the mag casing, the mechanism is 153mm from the tip of the BB feed to the plastic base, again with the winder sticking out a couple of mil below that.
Hope that helps!
It's gonna be difficult Chris but I'm going to do the best I can! I bought a de-ac yesterday to use as a guide, so that should make it a bit easier, the hardest part will be squeezing the motor in without taking the strength from the stock.
Diesel, you're a star! Those dimensions are almost perfect for the PPSH magazine.

good luck on the creation - if u pull it off, i may jump the 'Steiner' queue lol

No problem!
in return, can you do me the measurements for the PPSH drum mag? i'm wondering just how close it is to the thompson one, and whether it's close enough to save me making up another set of drum mags?
They're similar size, but look quite a bit different...

yeah, i've just been looking at some pics. thought i might be able to avoid some extra work! still, that's a long way off yet!
I'm thinking if i can sell one or two of my arcade machines, i might buy one of the hudson PFC PPSH's to convert.
oooo
Beware that if they're like my Enfield Revolver then the barrel will be pinned like a deac (steel pins) and you'll may be unable to get a airsoft barrel down there without a significant rebuild...

I'd assume it'll need a fair amount of rebuilding to fit the AEG internals, but i've got access to a milling machine and a lathe with a 6' bed, so if needs be i should just be able to turn out the original barrel completely along with all the other internals.
Yeah, kermit's been working on a conversion of the PFC enfield and had to create a completely new barrel and front end for it because of the pins...
As long as you're prepared for that work, then you'll be fine.. ![]()

apart from the awkwardness of making the stamped barrel shroud and the drum mag, i was quite happy to fabricate the whole thing from scratch! ![]()
The barrel shroud will be hard work for me, as I only have basic tools. That what makes custom guns so much fun!
Anyhow, I don't know how detailed the measurements you need are Diesel, so here's a (blurry) photo. Measurements are in millimetres. If you need more, just ask. I have a very nice de-ac I am more than happy to take photos of and provide dimensions for.

Just wondering if the VZ61 drum mag from TM would be any use in a PPSH conversion, haven`t seen one in the flesh so don`t know dimensions unfortunately ![]()

Looks good for shape, don't know the dimensions unfortunately. I probably never will either! The VCR bill has really screwed things up for me, since I'm not a member of a site and therefore can't buy any guns!
On a more psitive note, my dad has offered to fabricate the metalwork for the PPSH for me, so I can't screw it up! All I really need to do is shoehorn a gearbox in somehow. It's looking like the MP40 gearbox I have is just too deep to fit. I'll have to hope I can get hold of an M14 gearbox from somewhere and pray to God it fits.

I think you should still be able to buy the gearbox lawfully; isn't it only RIFs that are banned without a membership?

The VCR act also makes it illegal to construct a RIF/build a likeness of a firearm, wherether out of parts or homemade items, without being able to satisfy the specific defense.

good point...
I heavily suggest that no-one "suggests" ways of breaking the law with regards to the VCRA. We're on thin enough ice as it is, without giving the buggers at the HO any more ammunition.
Yes, we know the law is an ass, but unfortunately we have to live with it ![]()

I think, I heard somewhere that for it to be classed as legal body-parts upgrades/facelifts (like buying real wood grips or metal recievers) that 50% or more of the whole gun should look the same if not very similar.
For example, me turning my FA-MAS into my Vickers .303, Old 'Uns M14 into a 50 Cal, etc... would not be classed as legal after Oct 1st, but we got got ours complete and resembling the weapon before the bill was passed. If I made another Vickers out of another FA-MAS I would now be breaking the law, and would have to prove my entitlement to use the specific defense if caught doing so.
So, if you don't have proof or can't provide proof to exempt yourself from prosecution via the specific defense, don't attempt to make one airsoft weapon into another as seen in these threads!
Hope thats all clear. Double check the law before doing work like this, and triple check before posting on the net in open forums about what you are thinking of doing/currently making. ![]()
