Oh this poor post of Pete's, gone the way of all CiA threads!

Yeah we could really use a thread map or something ![]()

More directly Diggah, one could say no one knows as it has yet to be tested in court. The rule of thumb seems to be that 'manufacturing' would mean making an RIF where there was none before - spraying an IF or building an AEG from purchased parts for example.
If you have a defence then you can do what you like of course...
As for changing one RIF into another... up to the beak I suppose - like to be a test case?

I'd rather be a head case ![]()

i appear to have been misread, my intention was not of putting across that you should build, build, build.
It was that i built mine prior to the the infamous Oct 1st. I use it purely at organised events. It cost me a reasonable amount to do so and i am very proud of it and can justify its use and ownership. But, there is nothing to say that it wasnt built prior to that date. Several parts are stamped in the 40's, but how can it be proved that i didn't fabricate it after OCT 1st. Other than listings in some of the forum subjects there is no way.

No, but if it did ever come to court, you could use those dates and corroborative witness statments to prove it did exist prior to the 1st Oct, and also that you were a valid airsofter.
I'm sure if the worst happened, witness statements from other airsofters would act as a good defense.
They'd only try to prove any homemade RIF was build after Oct 1st if they have evidence that it was. And they'd have to have enough evidence to make any chance of prosecution 'worth while'. I'm sure no one will try and claim that any homemade RIFs, without having evidence to prove so, were built after Oct 1st and then try and prosecute.
You're only likely to try to be prosecuted for building a RIF if caught doing so or show real intentions of doing so. If the RIFs already built when it surfaces to the attention of the rest of the world, then I don't see how someone could be 'done' for it unless they say they built it after Oct 1st or have something marked to indicated that it could only have been built after Oct 1st, as there would be no proof to say which side of Oct 1st it was build on.
And no I am not condoning the build of a RIF, without being able to prove that you are a skirmisher, on the quiet! ![]()

Im kinda sadened by the whole thing. My dad made me a rifle when I was 8 out of wood and an old metal tent pole. Ok not strictly a Realistic IF but I bet even that would be off the cards these days.
Ahem... ANYWAY...
Sorry.

Latest news and pics of USA's WW2 Airsoft Armorer's PPSh - I want one ![]()
Yep, seen it and it looks great. Seems whenever I start a new project, someone with more resources and time beats me to it! Seriously though, it's given me some ideas on how to go ahead with mine now.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
It does look a cracking bit of kit, 200 round fixed drum hicap mag, m14 box. He reckons the first ones are going to be about $495 (£243) plus shipping for a fully built model ![]()
If he can make and sell enough of them, he'll be laughing. I'm only going to do one and I want a removable magazine, not a fixed one but I do like the idea of making them out of fibreglass. I used to work in the fibreglass business, so getting materials will be no trouble at all. Got my UKARA blackmail form sorted, so I have my "defence". Am just waiting to source an M14 gearbox now.

Action Hobbys do them for £40 I believe ![]()
Thanks Slick, I'll drop them an email.
