VIVA: ZF41 Update from VIVA. Phoebe kindly sent news about very exciting accessory for Boyi KAR98, which is almost a must have:

It's long time to contact with you,how are you these days?we will promote a new production--VIVA ZF41 scope for DBOY'S Kar98k only. Yes, it's includes two parts, full metal mount and suitable scope.

Let me explain about our this mount ,Sorry for not enough information to you. During the WWII, German forces designed many kinds of mounts and suitable scopes for them. We had announced the first style, only mount, and the user could choose short exit pupil scope by themselves. But now, this style mount was out of the store.

At present, we are producing the second style ,it is totally different for the first one. Named ZF41, the production has two parts, the mount and the scope. This is the scope using long exit pupil, and these only suit for DBOYS KAR98K. But lucky, BOYI 98K has got the scope mounting (please look at the picture), so the user can direct use it. If you have any question, tell me.

Phoebe

lets wait until someone who owns boths 98ks could tell us if it fits on tanaka too it says its only for the dboys one :(

Hmmmmm. Like the look of the other scope mount. Take it it won't include the scope :( Reading threads on other forums you can't make the scope mentioned in this thread fit a K98 deac anyway. Bugger. Would buy the Dboys though if it fits nice and looks good.

Anyone know of any other scopes that can fit to a K98. The Tanaka one looks OK but WGC has it down as discontinued. I've also found a Zf41 repro which looks stunning but is probably around the £300.00 mark. You guys are great at coming up with things if it isn't already out there. Any ideas?????

I have to say the ZF41 just doesn't float my boat! I Wish someone would make a nice (and affordable) ZF39 with high turret mounts or a proper long side mount. Now THAT, I would get excited about! You can get em now but they are stupid money :|

I am no expert on german scopes, but this scope does not look not look like a ZF41 me?!
The mount seems quite OK, but the scope?!

Isn't a ZF41 supposed to look like this?

You are correct, the scope is just a bog standard 2x20 pistol scope. Al lthey have really done is made the scope mount which is probably just copied from the Tanaka mount! Personally I really dont like the look of the Kar98 with the ZF41 installed, it just looks wrong somehow :?

Unfortunatley while the mount looks OK the scope is nothing like the ZF41. Also there is nothing out there that really looks like a ZF41. Repros are available but are about £200 at best.

The other scope mounts for the rear of the K98 would have been a much better alternative. They look OK and any mistakes can be covered with hessian. Also most WWII scopes were pretty plain so as long as you could have found a 1" scope with only one dial either on the top or the side you would have been somewhere close.

Expensive business WWII scopes. I'm looking at getting a Dboys in and turning it into a sniper rifle but there are few cheap ways to do it.

About the "real steal" repro ZF41scopes. Are they available in Europe somewhere? I only found
a dealer in the US (~350$). I have been thinking about getting one for quite a while
but would prefer to order somewhere in Europe.

The only place I've seen em is ebay. The Dboys in stock form is pant's personified, ranging from 240 to 300fps, if you are really lucky and the hop is shite, I spent 3hours tryng to find a semi decent setting and the gave up. As a body for a VSR, yes a scope would be useful.

I have to agree with Imp there, the only way to make a Dboyi into a decent sniper is to drop VSR internals into it. By doing so it also means you can attach a standard scope using standard mounts. Not totally authentic but wrap the scope in a bit of burlap and who's gonna know. When you are in a skirmish it is more inportant that the weapon performs well than look 100% authentic.

BTW the ZF41 is considered a "Marksman" scope, not a true Snipers scope. with a feeble 1.5x magnification they were little better than the 'open sights. The proper german snipers hated them. to quote from Albrecht Wacker's Sniper on the Eastern Front:

"The weapon with the little Zf41 sight amused everyone. It shot quite well, but you could hardly see anything through the tiny sight. The trainer's coment was: 'Such shit can only be created by those idiots in administration. Those armchair farters know as much about marksmen as a cow knows about singing songs'"

and

"The Model 41 sight had such a small diameter and limited range of vision that almost all the students considered it entirely unsuitable for use by marksmen"

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

If you could that would be great. Now what is the chance of sourcing the MG34?

ypou can buy the scope in germany here:
 http://www.softairmegastore.de/epages/6 ... 0-K98-ZF41
you can also buy agm mp44 there but its expensive :(
...and a spring p38...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh ............ that's no more a ZF41 than a chuffin' chinese clone Tasco 2-6x illuminated jobby! Complete waste of money. The mount looks right, but the scope is as much like a ZF41 as a labrador is like a yorkshire terrier. Both are dogs, both eat, shit and sleep, but there the similarities end :)

EDIT: Just seen the price. 119,95 €!!!! Basically a hundred quid (without postage) for an inaccurate turd that not even the most skillful could make look like an actual ZF41
