I'm after a suitable German "backup" pistol, I've been offered a Maruzen PPK but wondered if these were ever used by German combat troops in WW2? (A silenced one is used in "Where Eagles Dare") I believe the Maruzen PPK is a non blowback which gives good range and FPS results, and it has a 22 shot magazine so theoretically it would be a good skirmish gun. And the small holster should fit more easily on my belt with the usual ammo pouches etc!

So would these ever have been carried by infantry/Panzergrenadier officers? Or would they generally have been issued with a P38 or Luger? As is I've got a "captured" Colt 1911 to use, but Lugers seem to have dried up in the UK and P38s are getting very expensive!

Having all 3 pistols, I can safely tell you that the PPK is blow back. They were carried by officers, pilots, and mostly the gestapo and police. hence the K (kriminal). Its a nice pistol by the mags are crap. I have 2 mags for mine and the seals are gone. The P38 mags suffer from the same problem. the luger has a few quirks of its own. the sear is very weak and has a tendency to break, leaving you with a full auto luger. Oh by the way the colt was made by the norwegians and used by the occupying germans. Can't remember what they called it but they did use it.

the colt 1911 was also made under licence in argentina, called the something star(i forget) and was sold to every bugger who would buy it, brits and germans ( dont think the germans bought many though, but the brits did)

Same would apply to the Browning made in Belgium by FN and supplied to the Germans post the 1940 unpleasantness.

Cheers for your info gents, hadn't considered my Colt could be quite so legitimate playing as a German! I'd heard they used the Browning (GP35??); by some accounts as they were made in the occupied FN factory (to Brownings captured plans) many were deliberately shipped to the Germans in a virtually unuseable condition, having been made that way by the workforce!

Strange, I'm pretty certain this one isn't - perhaps I'm confused and it was Marushin possibly  ? Unless Maruzen did 2 versions? Need to look at it again obviously, if the vendor still has it. It has a nice "blued" finish (made from ABS), the mag is bright plated metal and pretty much full size but hollow (apart from the BB mag) to fit round the gas tank which is inside the pistol grip itself? The box states it fires at 300fps. I don't think its ever been used though :D so may be worth another look, if just to check on its parentage!

I have seen and handled one on a film set, was supprised to see the german markings on a Browning 9mm and the armourer told me about the FN fatory producing weapons for the Axis Forces post 1940

The GP35 (Grand Puissance=High Power) produced in FN Herstal and supplied to the Wehrmacht and SS was known as the P640; over 200,000 were supplied to them apparently so not that rare really! The Canadians subcontracted production after Belgium was occupied, and supplied Canadian, British and Chinese troops with the GP35.

Sorted - get yourself an airsoft GP35 and you can portray allied or axis sides! :good:

Well you would be if one existed. The available only HP I know of is the less than great Tanaka MkIII. A serious gap in the market for Brownings if you ask me.

It's a Tanaka M1935 actually (is that the same as a GP35?). It looks great but is made from such shite plastic that it feels like it's going to break by being looked at.

Oh and then it breaks...

I have one. But it's a collector's piece only.

I've had the browning by Tanaka ...bag o shite honestly . Made from three day old brie .

P38s ok if you like plastic guns , I liked mine but missed the weight . I've done the WA and WE 1911s to death , the metal WE running on propane is a real beast and sturdy
Currently running a WE Luger ...occasionally on propane, nice gun nice weight ,very Heer , seals are fiddly and overall would say metal 1911 best of the bunch ..but then it's not historically accurate. Hey ho .

All of them are miles better than any DEagle or Glock though !

I read a post on Land Warriors' forum on ascuk and apparently, WE will be making a Browning HP. If it's as solid as their .45 and P08, they'll sell shedloads of them.

I'll settle for the military version, it's still got the lanyard loop. Having owned a Tanaka version previously, I really hope WE produce a full metal version that doesn't break as soon as you use it!

Thats great news, WE's recent stuff seems to be getting better by all accounts - but very often lack trades which might put people off possibly? :? Still, think I'd have to put myself down for one all the same.
