I have aquired at great expense, a "yellow topper" for my joseph porta imperssion!
the problem is i cant remember what coulour the "band around it should be"
ive skim read over 9 sven books this week, and its sods law the description is in one ive not got, any one know the answer??

Only a cat called Stalin please. From memory Porta was supposed to be plug ugly with a long scrawny neck , I hope thats one bit you wont be aiming ot replicate . 
I used to be very into Sven Hassel.
Critically, it was often believed that he spent most the war in POW camps and the exploits of his merry band are various tales told to him by german POWs collated and dressed up as those of his colleagues.
If you consider that the books chronologically make no sense, Tiny/Little John loses his ear about five times in six books. Heide gets his nose broken at least 20 times and looses more teeth than anyone has in their head then you can see their might be some truth in this.

yes i thinks factually the books are bollocks,
but theres some great tales, and haveing seen simalar things in the army, i can belive most of them.
but he contradicts himself, and exadurates, but some great yarns all the same

I recall Porta had a monocle attached to the hat by a cord fashioned "from a piece of some girls' underwear"! Should be fun getting that bit right!

as for the monacle, im gonna cut some glass/plastic with a diamond core drill at work,
