Yes, very sorry about that Neil - lots of things for him to look forward to when he is older!

The June event will be out for him as well too, woodland but hardcore!

Still, should be plenty of other stuff happening up and down the UK this year (plus a couple more CiA events later on  )

yes thats exactly what i said..... lol

I was thinking of a hurtgen forest scenario at some point GZ would be good for that.... lots of woodland
any way this forum has strolled happily away from the original point....

(stitch counter mode on)
I believe I should really be wearing low boots and gaiters...
(stich counter mode off)
Perhaps some others might be able to share their ww2 german impressions for the Arnhem game here. Will anybody mind too much if dont have an original German ww2 water bottle, but an DDR one... my wallet is in trauma....

Well i'm sure with a bit of brainstorming we can come up with a suitable game for PW...

I may even start drafting a US vs Germans woodland game, just acase of picking the right battle Hueurtgen Forest might be a good one.

Thats tickle anyones fancy?

Neil - *stitch counter mode on* Slippers I believe would be inappropriate, otherwise you wore what you could get hold of, US jump and buckle boots at a push!

We WILL allow (just) DDR water bottles, Camelbaks are a bridge too far.

And stop it with the scenarios you and Gadge, it's making the wait until April all the more unbearable. :x

Nice outfit neil - it impressed me and your thoughts coincided with my own. I'd also read that some insignia was sometimes worn with camo tunics and to a lesser extent on smocks.

I'm actually thinking of doing much the same as yourself with my tunic although as I've already said my preference was to go for HG Division rather than SS.

This does of course mean that as the HG Division weren't eveywhere during WW2 my insignia will be inappropriate for some scenarios. But I'm making no promises that the rest of my gear will be 100% accurate either.

Hopefully I'll get more credit for assembling a collection of authentic looking german gear than I'll get flak for some parts of the ensemble not being completeley correct.

On a side note my attitude to going for an SS impression is softening a little - I'm going to have a think about it before ordering the HG insignia.

hi andy yep one of my reasons for choosing hohenstufen was that they were not actually convicted of any war crimes.

the Oak a is a really practical camo for general airsofting too. I always wanted a loadout that was different and i suppose mine is representative not perfect. which i think is how ww2 airsoft should be. Having said that its nice to see people go to a lot of trouble with their gear as well as their weapons.

Its co-incidental that my first ww2 airsoft game is arnhem which just happens to feature the hohenstaufen regiment. I was kinda hoping that ww2 airsoft would not be as anal as proper re-enacting.... how wrong I was!!! (irony)

Well, my Spearhead order turned up today (minus the bloody helmet cover), so I took the Plane Tree smock to work to see how it would blend in with the various bits of woodland (both broadleaf and pine) we have at work. How did it fare? brilliantly! - i'm very impressed with it - considering that Plane Tree dates back to '37, it still works well today

Gentlemen, the 9th SS contingent at Arnhem is going to look the mutts nuts :D

Well there was I thinking "oh well HG weren't at Arnhem but that's no biggie"

Got me copy of Osprey Men at Arms "The 'Herman Goring' Division" and blow me down but they mention that some HG units in training depots did fight during Operation Market Garden after all.

Shame there's no pics of any HG dudes in Oak A tho <cough>

IIRC correctly, it was the HG NCO school that was just down the road from Arnhem. Camo wise, by that period in the war, the HG were wearing the ubiquitous Luft Field Division Splinter jacket. Earlier in the war certain elements were issued with SS type 1 helmet covers and smocks.

Yes, one of my other impressions is HG :) - as worn by Snyper at the BoB game in December, as I was in Fallschirmjager mode at the time.

As an aside to the SS topic here is a documentary that covers the SS from formation to ulitmate demise - very interesting if you have a spare 55 minutes:

Sorry for the slow reply. I went for Plane Tree No. 5 - as this was *the* most commonly issued pattern to the W-SS during the war.

I've got one of the Spearhead Plane Tree #5 smocks. Does the job. Not the *best* Plane Tree you'll find, but at that price, well, whose complaining!

I'm sure the slave workers who made the original ones took a lot less care than any reeanctor .

Roll arond in the mud for a day or so to get it more authentic ! :wink

whats the view on the blurred edge from spearhead? I just can not make up my mind as to if I like it or not!!

I got a parka in the summer blurred edge and it's not bad when put up against a SM Wholesale zelt[SM are famous for the quality of their SS camo and infamous for their shocking customer service].
It's not as 'hazy' or 'fuzzy' as some of the originals [see the Europa book on SS camo] but its not bad. Certainly better than some of the pea dot and oak leaf prints that you see.
On the subject of Pea dot, please dont be tempted by a pea helmet cover, they are pure fantasy. never made by the reich.
