Just persistence and always going as regularly as possible. Bearing in mind; I will buy an item if it is a good price, no matter if I need it or not - just to ensure it is then in the hands of collectors/preservists than at risk of being forgotten/destroyed. There is a lot more militaria out there than you hear about from my posts - it just may be that it's either too new (I don't tend to buy '70s onwards stuff unless it is something specific) or stupidly priced! And some items, as I have no interest in them but know they are worth having, I may not mention them as I would be wanting to sell them on, perhaps to people on this forum or other similar forums, who may not be so inclined to pay my asking price when they know how much I paid for it (I am NOT being a dealer, just sensible). An example of this is two/three weeks back at Nash Mills carboot sale in Hertfordshire I found a German Signals equipment pouch, '38 dated with waffenampt, for £1. I didn't post it up as I wanted to do more research about it first, and then have a better chance of passing it on to someone who'd want it.
Also, just keep in mind that anyone could have anything. I've bought a post-war leatherette jerkin off of a 6' 2" black transvestite after spotting the edge of it in a rail of ladies frocks, war-dated jackknives off of chavs selling DVDs and bits to 'barry' up your car, that beautiful military drawing set off of a very old Irish traveller who only had 6 other items to sell and was just crouched on the floor with the few goods spread out before him.
Yeah, must admit, I did car boots religiously for years, and picked up some serious bargains, but I think the internet has killed it a lot, and the majority is now 'shit that's not worth flogging on eBay'. The Nottingham ones used to have a few guys who obviously did house clearances, and anything they didn't know about got chucked on a table with 'offers' written on it. I've picked up quite a few ww2 uniforms and assorted kit from them for pennies, but that dried up, and now all they have is old stereos and crockery. Presumably they've discovered the eBay 'collectors market'.
These days I just don't have the inclination to spend all sunday morning trawling through someone else's junk, I tend to just go to the local auctions, it's not as cheap (usually!), but someone's at least filtered out the DVD's and kid's clothes.
An MG42 Lafette with optics for my .... er... MG42.

Heh.
Nah, he likes airsoft. My wife hates it.
That 50 is pretty impressive. Will be great when able to shoot.
Chris and I are quickly building up quite a collection of WW2 weaponry. Sadly funds won't stretch to a jeep or truck.
Yet!

A book I have been after for a while has arrived.
It's a fascinating story about a little known part of the war. Australia sent a small force to bolster the 200-ish Dutch troops in West Timor and Invaded Neutral Portugese East Timor. When the Japanese invaded most of the troops were evacuated or captured, except for 2 independent commando companies who had recently been trained by members of the SOE. They started a guerilla campaign, however they had no means of telling anyone they were still there until they had built a radio from scratch to contact Darwin. 300 troops managed to tie up 12,000 Japanese for several months with the help of the local Timorese and to some extent helped by the Portuguese.
Theres a newsreel film about them on youtube, if anyone's interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quisMMLJRFo
Thanks for that, looks a good read.

Unfortunately I had to get it sent from Australia, not the cheapest book ever, but on Kindle it would be worth getting.
Just picked up a really nice fliegerbluse.
Just got me some post-war Czech binoculars which are almost identical to the Wehrmacht Dienstglas, and an Erel made Finnish M36 Fieldcap, complete with lion buttons, it's lurrrrvely
I've fired a bullet on every continent. Nearly hit someone, too.
A complete zelt tent and original German map case (thanks to Chommers).
Heer officers belt and another EM belt buckle (so I can have a plain one and a painted one).

Aussie Khaki Tropical gear. I have been toying with filling in the gap between early war and Late war Aussie gear with either these trousers or some shorts. The nettles and brambles at Copenhagen may have helped me make up my mind
Just picked up a very nice fallshirmjager helmet in my size! finally!
