Sounds awesome. I like it when people make the more unusual stuff.

Bit of a crazy angle on that bolt handle!
Some chap over in France made one of these, looks very good. http://www.airsoftbuilds.com/weapon.php?id=108
I`m just reading The Last Valley by Martin Windrow about the French in the Indochina conflict. Some quite odd things pop up in the book, a para unit was issued in 1948 with some mas36 folding stock rifles which they didn`t particularly like. These were worn out a year later and France was so hard up post war that the paras were then issued some ww1 vintage berthier rifles which were so long that they had to attach a drop line when they chuted in so the rifle didn`t injure them. These lasted a few months until they were re equipped with ex German mp40s, although excellent they were issued with ex Brit 9mm ammo which the mp40 apparently didn`t like. Other odd things, apparently there were 3000 japs who deserted at the end of ww2 and joined the vietminh, quite a few of these helped in the jungle arms factories in the mountains and the only weapon they could successfully manufacture from scratch was the Brit Sten.
The Viet Minh also turned out copies of the Thompson/M1A1. I haven't the photos to hand but they were rough copy with no stock provided.

couldnt you make it out of solid wood and paint it. I'm thinking it only needs to be dropped to the floor?
Seriously though, would be an interesting project, not many about! ![]()

AEG Slime? you talking about p90's again?
SMLE* ![]()

How on earth do you get a gearbox into an SMLE?

M14?
Question is WHY you'd want to, not how!

If you look at the page he's used an MP-40 in his SMLE
unless of course you had a working cocking handle, that was just for show, so its down to the person who has him to fake rack the rifle after every shot

M14?

I was tempted, after all the hassle i've had with VSR clones, to fit my spare m14 internals into the SMLE body.
Didn't bother in the end tho, so the SMLE's still in bits and not working. ![]()

Be interested to see the pics chap, being as the Thompson was a quality weapon with a fair bit of machining needed I`m surprised. There was reference in the book to the jungle factories attempting to make bolt action rifles but didn`t manage it successfully due to the machining necessary.
As an aside the most popular rifle amongst the Vietminh up to Dien Bien Phu was bolt action Mausers, a quantity of SKS started to appear after DBP, the AK47 didn`t arrive in noticeable numbers until 1967.
A MAS36 drool

I'm still putting the last bits of the Legion kit togther, and also have a couple of sets of Indochina kit. Can't wait to see pics ![]()

Remember to get semi auto you need all the gubbins from around the outside of the m14 gearbox as well. Not worth trying.
An MP40 one may work... but it's a whacky idea. Gas or Spring makes far more sense.
was that not the last rifle ever to be adopted as an infantry rifle by any country in the world, and was notorious for not having a safety catch???
