Got bored today and my mp001 has been sat around doing nothing for months, so I thought I`d have a go at creating a loose representation of an LE No.4.
Made a fake mag and screwed it to the body, took about 10 minutes (I was surprised at how this small piece changed the look of the rifle).
The upper handguard took about 2 hours, could really do with a router
.
The front barrel section/sight is made of copper pipe, its the only 13mm od pipe I had, would`ve preferred steel as my soldering leaves much to be desired.
Just got the bottom guard and a few bits of carving to do, then try and locate a cheap rear sight which resembled the no.4 one. ![]()

Excellent mate! ![]()

Bit more done ![]()

looking slick Slick ![]()
Looking good... not as nice as using original parts (wood, etc)... but not bad at all... a bit square maybe, but then you're not looking to make a museum quality replica are you!
Keep up the good work.
Cheers chaps, it is quite square, the top handguard could`ve been a lot thinner along the top but I was worried about splitting the wood. I`ve just stained the wood and sprayed the mag and sight, hopefully it`ll look a bit better then...I`m curiously drawn to getting a basic 'Tommy Atkins' impression together. ![]()
You should come and join PBI and we'll give you a hand... plus a group of matched uniforms looks way better than a single one! ![]()
(Mind you, most of us aren't based in Cornwall!)
Hi, good results so far. I am doing the same thing but a bit behind you, LOL.
If you want a proper sight http://www.thegunner.net do them (plus other bits) for £10.50 ish plus delivery but you will need to make some way of bolting it on. I have bought a rail with a cut out in it and will use a scope mount suitably butchered as the bottom half of the sight. It will never be perfect but best endeavours and all that.
Good luck anyway.

Looking good. Once the wood is stained and the magazine painted that will look fine.
I would be tempted to do the same to our MP001 if it was capable of hitting a barn door consistently.
I got it stained and painted and it don`t look too bad. The upper handguard is still bugging me but I had a thought about using some tube cut in half to get the rounder profile. I found some rigid clear acrylic on fleabay 32mm od 3mm wall, that makes the id 26mm which would fit nicely around the bull barrel. I might pick some up and have an experiment. ![]()
Good job. Looking slick, Slick (!)
This is about as far as I`m going for now, sudden lack of employment stops play ![]()

not a bad place to stop! it looks nearly finished... ![]()
You could market them as kits!

You could market them as kits!

I dunno, not sure there`d be any interest as its a bit basic and not very pretty, 3 lumps of wood, 2 bits of inner tube and a bit of pipe. Although it looks like I could do with the money in the near future
. If I could get hold of a router I could make the top handguard more refined, and make the barrel/front sight more substantial out of steel. ![]()
Hmm, that's got me thinking about building my own using original parts .
What's the donor rifle?
Looking at the price list from The Gunner I think you could get most of the original parts for about £160.00 including the wood furniture.
The tricky thing would atatching the original butt stock to the front stock, the bracket was part of the oriinal receiver. You'd have to make one and somehow fix it to the receiver of the donor rifle. It would have to be very srtong, too. I was looking at one of Warren's and he has cast the receiver including the bracket as one piece, which I expect is a bit too advanced for most of us.

MP001 I believe
Yep it is the MP001. The reason I didn`t go down the original parts route was because of the stock...and cost, even using a Denix you come across the same problem of attaching the shoulder stock.
I sat on my patio this afternoon shooting up into the woods and it was strangely gratifying working the bolt action, and the thing is pretty accurate....it must be the first time I`ve used the sights on an airsoft gun, I normally look over the top of them.
If I had Brit kit I`d be tempted to go bolt action all the time, I just wish the chinese had brought out the K98 without the silly shells, then I could`ve used it with my FJ kit. ![]()
Well I`ve now sold this one, could`ve sold it three or four times over by the looks of it, now I`ve had another enquiry from someone else about converting their MP001.
I`m thinking of making these up as a conversion kit for about £35 so people can fit them on their own rifles. This is a new direction for me so I`m just wondering if I did make it as a kit how much interest there would be? ![]()
