That really depends on what fps the K98 is putting out... if its over 500fps then it should be toned down...

I have no problems with bolt actions at 500fps, but much over that... well I wouldn't be happy at all!

Hmmm, tales of ludicrous power are a trifle exaggerated I feel. Gas guns are crap on cold days and only come into their own on warm days, so what are you going to do?

The only injury from a gas gun was Rhys's which was from a too close range. It wasn't intentional, just an error of judgement. This was the first game I've ever played at that bolt actions could hold their own against automatics - partly to do with the fine weather and partly to do with the terrain.

This was a game played in a mature and responsible way - the biggest risk of injury was from 'natural' hazards not gaming ones, lets' not get this out of perspective.

None of my injuries are from over powered rifles, just from well placed shots, ill-fitting glasses and very tough terrain.

Jesus!!!!

thats some wound.....have to say I was wearing a thick cotton top and two 98 rounds took my breath away....and I have a very high pain threshold, probably why i'm the live fig 11 test subject for FPS at IED (took a rubber bullet to the back of the head, and one the kidney deliberatly from a 203 at 15 feet to gauge it's usage before a game...the kidney shot bloody hurt...the headshot did't....which speaks volumes... :slap: )

....anyway, think I best give the blade a ring again...his forehead head had swollen up for a second time yesterday morning....just get him to check the wound again....

yep......thats a story to tell down the pub......"paintball?....pah.......for girls that....you wanna try airsoft mate...nails me, nails...oh aye...and a packet of prawn cocktail please...."

oh yes, deffo a hoofin wound that.......

i witnessed Kavaster letting off a grenade in his pocket, , he blow a hole in his jacket, just before that he fell out of the jeep breaking his waterbottle strap and ripping his pants, also minor scrapes to his hand. All in the space of 5 minuites. respect! Has `gavin` added his facial inqury to the list, quite nasty with a good amount of blood and bits of skin hanging off.

cheers
Anthony

Steve, fair enough... glasses failing happens... Think yourself lucky it wasn't the same gun that hit Rhys that hit you.

Dave... I understand what you're saying, but I am surprised that a rifle firing at 500fps could cause an embedded bb 7mm under the skin even at point blank range. It must have been firing at over that.

I've fired a K98 in medium temperatures and the power quite literally amazed me.

In weather as warm as that at the weekend I think a little extra care in the choice of propellant would be wise.

I've experienced players at certain other (non-wwii) games with over-powered rifles and even had bbs embed themselves in the wall next to me. Its not something I'd like to repeat, thanks.

I'll say nothing more, I wasn't at Bryansk, so feel I have already overstepped the mark.

But I'd appreciate this getting some consideration at the other events this summer... :)

What a ridiculous post Richard, I would have expected better of you. You well know that to avoid any facial marking a full face mask is needed and that players choose not to and accept the consequences.

Not one person has complained about their injuries - this was a bragging thread, not a nagging thread.

If I had had a 7mm deep bb in me I would not have been as forgiving as Rhys. That's all I will say.

TO be fair he did seem prietty pissed off at the time, i do sort of agree with both sides, you should be carefull when using powerfull weapons and you should eccept the consiquences if your not wearing proper protection, but then again in the heat of battle everyone makes mistakes (especialy if their new) at my local site i have seen many teeth shot out.

Got to say though i did take one of thoes K98's to the forhead from quite a distance away and it still damn hurt

Of course it hurts. Whatever hurts means. Neill caught some shots to the ear (I was watching - shooter wasn't too close, just fired a burst at the only target visible behind a mound). Hits to the ear sting like hell (ditto nose, knuckles, nails, nether-regions etc) and understandably the air was blue for a while (blokes don't burst into tears, they vent rage).

I'll say again, natural hazards from outdoor pursuits have much more potential for injury than 6mm plastic balls.

I'm no medic but I imagine a shot to the unsupported soft cheek tissue has more potential for penetration than a hit to the arm, say, with solid muscle and bone beneath.

Anyway, it's all academic - I didn't have one complaint about hot guns presented to me and as far as I know to none of the other organisers or site owners.

I'm going to settle this once and for all. yes it was a kar98k. no clue if it was gas or spring. yes it was to close. but it was a accident. period. we were engaged in a firefight and in the heat of battle shit happens. I wouldnt say I was totally pissed off but yes annoyed but thats a fairly natural reaction when being shot with a Kar98 at that range :P After realising who it was though and that it was his first skirmish I was very very quick to calm down because I realised it was a error of judgement due to lack of experience. We've all made mistakes when new. Hell even now we do, when you're mid fire fight and that adrenalins flowing you sometimes make bad calls.

the chap in question was very decent about it all. he apologised unreservadly. made sure several times I was ok throughout the evening and night. and even offered me some of his bourban. was his gun over? havent a clue but i wouldnt think so, it was the range not the power that I feel was a factor. do I care? nope. It was my choice not to wear the face mask. He hadnt intentionally aimed to damage me or hurt me. Its a big boys and girls game. cant take getting hurt in a while? go home and play with some doilies. end of story. Now lets drop this and return to the original theme as this babblings just a waste of time. if you really are that worried about hot guns raise a thread elsewhere to discuss it.

and I for one think it was fantastic to see the rifles come into their own. made everyone think that bit more tactically.

oh and that halt pic?
