What is the view/rule on photography.
Would a chap dressed as a German taking pictures with a modern camera ruin the feel?????????
All Pictures would be of Germans obviously, as I could not wander around the Yank lines, but I would like to take some action shots if possible and wanted to know if this would be acceptable, I might not get a chance, but if I do I wanted to check first it was okay? or not.
Well, that is exactly what I did last weekend and no-one seemed to mind.
The 'lounging around' shots generally look much more realistic to my mind, action photos of airsoft games are very hard to take well, they usually just look like a handful of people standing behind trees.
The very best action shot I''ve seen was Porta and Tiny manning their Maxim gun at 'Border Clash' last year, mainly because it is very blurry and really captures the tension of being under fire. It is in the aar bit of the page for the event, Feb 2011 http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/php/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=166&t=12313&start=15

I agree that good action shots are few and far between. there were some great ones from Sevastopol, many are incredibly authentic looking, this one is my favourite:
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942
"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

yep, those are the kind of shots im looking at getting - presuming i find the time and dont get to wrapped up in everything. last one is awesome.
At the last few Gunman games there has been guys there just doing photos and they have come out with loads of really good ones.
Always try and have my camera with me but it's like you say Simon sometimes your just having far too much fun to be bothered with farting about to take pictures.
But if you want to then go for it, the more snaps the better, might get on a few then
Actually I think the original colour version of that shot looks even better, there is an extra soldat in the smoke who had vanished in the "aging" process!
Rute (DevilDoll), the girl who took that shot was also there the whole day as a dedicated photographer and even dressed as a WW2 nurse for the role which was a stirling effort as it was bloody freezing. She really did get some fantastic shots, all of which can be seen here: [link]http://devildollsdelusion.weebly.com/airsoft-galleries.html[/link]
A lots of the players got some great shots too mind you

The key is to stay in-game when taking pics. Act like a real war photographer and take cover when under fire rather than swanning around like an open-day marshal. Frankly, nobody notices what type of camera you have
Agreed, photos look so much better when they're taken by someone who is fully involved. Real shots would be taken low to the ground or far away and usually from the back or side (plus they hide the specs better). Action shots from the front tend to look obviously staged.
I will probably be going as a US Combat Photographer and shooting with my old Olympus Trip (Hopefully by then in a Leica "rangefinder" leather case) and my 1911, I would seriously be worried about shooting in game (ie not in HiVis) with anything precious or plastic (Even in HiVis I would want a neoprene cover on the camera body and an optical flat or a stack of "disposable" filters on my lenses just in case...)
Here is one of the few Axis Photog references I have.... And I will be overcome with jealousy with anyone who turns up with a rig like this
Yeah, than Mauser in the boot would get massively annoying after about 5 minutes
Seems like the yank photographers weren't the only ones who liked to pose it up.
remember that time spent "dead" can be used productively with a camera.i dont think anybody has ever said anything against cameras in the past .
